  • The National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) is an umbrella organization promoting the rights of Persons with disabilities in Uganda with the vision of having “A Just and Fair Society where Persons with Disabilities live a Prosperous and Dignified Life”.
  • We exist to advocate for the rights of Persons with Disabilities in a unified voice for improved livelihoods.
  • With funding from National Community Lottery Fund in conjunction with Aga Khan Foundation, NUDIPU is hereby seeking to recruit a competent and energetic Ugandan to fill the above positions:

    Job purpose

    To spearhead the membership development and maintenance of NUDIPU members (DUs & DPOs) to fulfill their mandate.

    Job summary

    S/he is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with new and
    old members and promoting NUDIPU’s work.

    S/he facilitates the day to day
    operations on the members and belongs to the Human Rights Programme and Partnership department.

    Main Tasks and Responsibilities

    Programme planning, development and implementation

  • Participate in the development of projects and programmes and review meetings as appropriate including initiating new ideas and concepts.
  • Implement programme activities in compliance with agreed guidelines.
  • Develop and implement the department’s periodic work plans.
  • Participate in review of the plans & programmes to ensure relevance in the rapidly changing environment.
  • Ensure programme deliverables meet quality standards and proactively guidance from relevant experts.
  • Write programme reports and document lessons to facilitate learning & review Programme Assistant’s reports.
  • Mobilize partners, stakeholders and members to participate in NUDIPU activities.
  • Support and participate in the advocacy activities and events for the organization.
  • Participate in defining programme and financial objectives, targets and monitoring processes (collect, collate and share relevant project information) in line with the programme and organizational M&E framework.
  • Identify thematic advocacy issues through programme implementation.
  • Identify existing and potential funding opportunities and participate in the technical aspects of project proposal development process.
  • Participate in raising of resources to build NUDIPU reserves.
  • Conduct research in relevant pertinent issues to build a body of knowledge and influence change at various levels use the findings to inform programme design.

    Membership development and maintenance

  • Develop and implementing a membership development strategy.
  • Review and implement the membership guidelines.
  • Recruit and nurture new members according to the membership development Plan, guidelines and strategy.
  • Maintain an up to-date and comprehensive database of all members including their profiles and mailing lists.
  • Maintain regular communication with all members on programmatic, management and governance issues.
  • Be the key contact for all NUDIPU members.
  • Ensure that NUDIPU members enjoy their rights and fulfill their obligations as per the NUDIPU Constitution including following up membership
    payment details.
  • Create an enabling environment for members to show case their work within NUDIPU network and international scene.
  • Link members to appropriate technical, financial and other resource and networks.
  • Organize membership fora and maintain membership engagement platforms so as to foster peer learning and mutual support among
    members.
  • Keep members updated with all relevant information and developments within the sector.
  • Ensure active participation of members in NUDIPU’s programmes and activities.
  • Participate in member organizations’ activities and programmes.
  • Prepare periodic (quarterly, annual) membership status reports for NUDIPU management.
  • Liaise with members on current opportunities and challenges in the fraternity sector.

    Capacity building for members

  • Undertake periodic assessments of member organization’s capacities and capacity needs and devise strategies to respond to their needs in conjunction with other programme team members.
  • Identify and propose member organizations to be considered for capacity building opportunities with immediate supervisor.
  • Design and deliver capacity development interventions targeting members. (Including developing training materials, holding training
    sessions, monitoring application of skills and knowledge and providing follow-up support).
  • Prepare training content and materials for the capacity building including:concept notes budgets, and other support documents.
  • Execute capacity building activities (assessments, selection, inception meetings, Induction, mobilization, trainings, learning visits, technical backstopping, mentorships / monitoring and support supervision) for
    member organizations, staff and other partners.
  • Identify and procure potential resource persons to support facilitation of capacity building activities where necessary with your line manager.
  • Conduct an evaluation of capacity building activities undertaken.
  • Prepare reports on implemented capacity building activities.
  • Support members to function effectively (Support District Union Executive Committee (EC) meetings, office running costs and group start up kits in operation Districts and equipping DU offices to deliver & Equipment).
  • Supervise day to day Programme operations under the programme.
  • Organize community dialogues, bazaars etc. at district level on challenges and possible interventions on disability budgeting
  • Liaise with members (DPOs) in the respective districts on any matters relating to inclusion
  • Facilitate exchange visits for members.

    Other Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Participate in the organization’s key events and represent them organization in relevant fora.
  • Provide technical guidance, couching and mentoring to staff and volunteers.
  • Support and participate in other programme area activities when required.
  • Ensure that resources under his/her care are properly deployed and utilized.
  • Identify existing and potential funding opportunities, and participate in the technical aspects of project proposal development processes in collaboration with the supervisor.
  • Participate in defining programme and financial objectives, targets and monitoring processes and collect, collate and share relevant project information in line with the programme M&E framework.
  • Participate in the documentation and sharing of learnings from programme implementation and identify thematic advocacy issues and
    forward them to the advocacy Team.
  • Ensure vulnerable people (aged, youth, women & children) participate
    in NUDIPU activities.
  • Undertake all necessary actions to protect and promote the image and brand of NUDIPU
  • Carry out own administrative functions including timely filing and the use
    of Word for the production of own correspondences and reports.

    Person specifications

    Education

  • A degree in Development Studies, Social Work and Social Administration, Social Sciences and other related humanities.
  • Master’s or a related advanced degree in international development, organizational development or public management.

    Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of Current national and international affairs/debates.
  • Advocacy and Negotiation skills.
  • Prospecting, developing and relationship building and customer service.

    Personal Qualities
  • Multi-tasking, pleasant personality, ability to work under pressure in a complex organization, proactive.
  • Communication and interpersonal relationship
    Capacity to understand and analyse national, regional, and local politics, ability to understand new issues.
