    1. National Research Call for Proposals for Postgraduate Research and Training Grants

    National Research Fund (NRF) announces National Research Call for Proposals for Postgraduate
    Research and Training. The call is a strategic response targeted to address the Science, Technology and Innovation (ST&I) thrusts in Vision 2030 requiring the development a highly skilled, globally competitive human resource base.
    National Research Fund is a statutory body established by Science Technology and Innovation Act No. 28 of 2013, mandated to facilitate research for the advancement of science, technology and innovation for national development.

    Bonafide students from public and private universities are eligible to apply. The grant programme supports only the research component of Masters or doctoral degree training programmes on
    projects addressing the national development agenda. Proposals submitted for consideration should have been reviewed, defended and approved by the relevant postgraduate bodies of the respective universities.

    A successful doctoral project will be funded up to a maximum of Kenya Shillings Two million (Ksh
    2,000,000/=) for a period not exceeding three (3) years, while Masters project will be funded up to
    a maximum of five hundred thousand (Ksh 500,000/=) for a period of one (1) year.

    Interested postgraduate students who wish to participate in this nationally competitive grant

    The deadline for submission of proposals is on Friday, 11th November, 2016; 17:00hrs. Successful
    applicants will be notified by 30th December, 2016.

    2. Competitive Research Grants For Multidisciplinary Collaborative Research

    The National Research Fund (NRF) announces National Call for Multidisciplinary Research. The call is a strategic response to the national socio-economic development agenda as described in the Kenya Vision 2030. The aim of the grant is to promote multidisciplinary collaborative research among national innovation delivery agencies to catalyze socio-economic growth.

    Multidisciplinary and Multi-institution research teams from public and private institutions are invited to submit
    research proposals for consideration. Proposed projects should clearly demonstrate strategies of how to address varied challenges facing the Kenyan society.

    The proposed research areas should be in line with national priorities expounded in the Kenya Vision 2030, Second Medium Term Plan (MTP II), ST&I sector policy framework.

    The priority sectors targeted in this call broadly include:- Agriculture, Health, Environment and Natural resources, Extractive sector,
    Renewable Energy, Water, Sanitation, Tourism, Security, ICT, and Social Sciences.

    The objectives of this call are to:
    • Promote collaborative solution-based scientific research that address priority national societal challenges;
    • Generate tangible research outputs and services that will increase the national competitiveness within a global
    context;
    • Create opportunities for generation of new technologies through research, technology transfer and adoption; and
    • Increase the application of research findings for and innovations for increased employment and wealth creation.

    Proposals should be well designed and rationalized based on the guidelines available on the NRF website. Successful applicant will be funded up to Kenya shillings twenty million (Ksh 20,000,000) for a period not exceeding three
    years.

    3. National Call for Proposals for Infrastructural Support for Research and Training Institutions

    The National Research Fund (NRF) announces National Call for Proposals for Infrastructural Support for Research and Training Institutions. This call is a strategic response to support national research and training institutions build
    their research capacity.

    It is geared to create robust, responsive, demand-driven research systems in Kenya. Through this programme, NRF intends to finance identification, acquisition and installation of specialized research facilities that will promote and support cutting-edge research.

    Bonafide Institutions that are involved in research and training in Kenya (applicants) are invited to apply for this research capacity strengthening support grant.

    Within this call, NRF seeks to support the acquisition of specialized research and training facilities that will have significant impact in providing research infrastructure that will be used to conduct high-level, cutting-edge relevant research capable of contributing to national development.

    Different institutions can opt to submit a joint application.

    Institutions interested in applying for funding under this programme should provide competitive proposals that:-
    1) Provide a clear justification of the type of research infrastructure needed;
    2) Demonstrate how the infrastructure will benefit the applicant and other national institutions;
    3) Indicate the available capacity to utilize the infrastructure;
    4) Provide a cost-effective plan of maintenance;
    5) Provide a well-articulated plan that ensures national access to the infrastructure by other institutions and researchers in Kenya;
    6) Indicate the proposed percentage of contribution by the host institution as well as from other funders towards the acquisition and maintenance of the infrastructure.

    Proposals should be well designed and rationalized based on the guidelines available on the NRF website. Successful applications will be financed from the range of Kenya shilling Three million to One Hundred million (Ksh 3,000,000 - 100,000,000/=) to identify, acquire and install the infrastructure.

    On exceptional circumstances, with sufficient
    justification an identified research facility may be financed beyond this limit.

    The deadline for submission of proposals is on Friday, 18th November, 2016; 17:00hrs. Successful applicants will be notified by 30th December, 2016.
