Moving The Goalposts Internships in Kenya

Moving The Goalposts is a unique, community-based organization that, since 2002, uses football to empower over nine thousand girls in the rural and urban areas of Coast region.


Through playing football, MTG girls discover their confidence and value themselves as strong, capable young women. MTG leagues are youth-led and managed and include girl advocates that promote health sexual choices, financial independence and female leadership.

More than nine thousand girls aged 9-25 years participate in MTG’s tournaments and ongoing leagues. Girls are encouraged to take up more leadership roles in their Community.

In order for MTG to achieve its objectives, the organisation therefore wishes to fill the position here below:

Moving The Goalposts Marketing and Communications Internships in Kenya

Reporting to: Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Coordinator

Job Purpose Communication Intern will be responsible for communication and publicity of Moving The Goalposts. She will be working closely with Program Data and Monitoring Officer and report to Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for MTG social media platforms, work closely with the Data monitoring officer to develop MTG’s social media activity plan
  • Update and maintain Moving The Goalposts social media presence, including scheduling Facebook updates
  • Draft, distribute and pitch news releases, media alerts and other stories
  • Work closely with team leaders to design flyers, graphics, e-invites and other marketing material for major events hosted by Moving The Goalposts
  • Update Moving The Goalposts website when needed
  • Collaborating with staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications
  • Collecting and writing stories for MTG beneficiaries for publication of quarterly Tunaweza Newsletters
  • Collect and compile stories for quarterly electronic Newsletter
    Interview MTG girls for Most Significant Change
  • Project during residential camps
  • Production of Digital Stories for MTG beneficiaries
  • Writing and disseminating press releases to media houses as per MTG calendar of events
    Accompany girls for media interviews
  • Update MTG media
    and stakeholders contacts
    Responsible for MTG photography and custodian of MTG photo bank
  • Any other duty assigned

    Qualifications

  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
  • Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations)
  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). Proficiency in Adobe
  • InDesign and Photoshop highly desired. Knowledge of HTML and graphic design a plus
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts
    Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of gender and women rights.

    Required Knowledge Skills and Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in communication field or any other relevant field.
  • At least 6 months relevant work experience
    Experience and knowledge on table-banking/savings desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in team situation
