Job Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this role is to further MSI’s Goal: The Prevention of Unwanted Births and its mission of ensuring the individual’s right to: Children by Choice Not Chance.

  • Reporting to the Regional Finance Director (East Africa), the main purpose of this role is two-fold: to build the finance capacity of MSI Country Programmes including Partner Programmes to adequately support the delivery of their work; and secondly to support the timely management reporting and analysis of Country finance reports to MSI support programmes including the International Programmes Department.
  • You will provide support to a number of designated countries to build capacity across a range of areas including Financial Accounting & Reporting, Business Planning, Financial Management Systems, Financial Controls, Business Processes, Financial Leadership and Risk management.

    Requirements for Job

  • You should be a fully qualified (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) accountant.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, with experience of multi-currency accounting and reporting, as well as building finance capacity.
  • You’ll be competent with Excel and have familiarity with Sun Accounting or Vision Reporting Tools (or similar).
  • You need to be someone who enjoys working with, and training, people from a many different cultures.
  • There is a considerable amount of travelling in this role as you will be supporting several different countries.

    The field based auditors are based in locations where MSI has operations; currently two are in Africa, one in India and the other one in Australia. Due to an internal promotion, there is a vacancy in our team based in Africa.

  • Supporting the Director of Internal Audit with the development and delivery of the annual audit plan, you will be expected to plan and undertake fieldwork audits mainly in Africa, but also occasionally overseas as directed by the Director of Internal Audit.
  • You will also be responsible for ensuring that reports are clear and concise and are produced in a timely manner.
  • This is a challenging, demanding role, but in return, you will be given a lot of independence and flexibility to manage your own schedule.
  • It can also be a training ground for future business leaders – previous holders have gone on to senior leadership roles.
  • Ultimately, this is a mission critical role, ensuring that every pound is spent properly on the mission.

    Job Requirements
  • With an extensive financial background, you will preferably be a fully qualified (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) accountant. An auditing qualification would also be very beneficial.
  • You should be an experienced auditor – you’ll be a one person audit team, so you’ll need to be able to manage your own plan, schedule and reporting.
  • Ideally, you will have had some experience as an internal auditor, but for the right person, we may accept someone straight from practice.
  • You’ll need to enjoy travelling (60-80% of your time) to other countries and meeting new people.
  • Business level French would be a distinct advantage.

    3. Marie Stopes Kenya In Their Hands Project Officer Vacancy in Nairobi

    Probationary Period:
    3 months

    Reporting to: Senior Coordinator, youth

    Marie Stopes Kenya is implementing a major donor funded project to deliver access to Family Planning services (with a focus on long acting, reversible methods) to young women under the age of 19.

    This project is a high profile, global flagship program for Marie Stopes International and MSK is seeking a dynamic and effective project officer to manage MSK’s portion of the grant.

    The project officer will be responsible for the implementation of a complex and ambitious work plan.

    Key Responsibilities

    Implement the In Their Hands Project Activities

    Under the leadership of the Senior Coordinator: Youth and the In Their Hands Project Director, ensure MSK’s delivery of a major, multimillion GBP youth programme across all of its service channels as follows:

    1. Project Management

    Key activities

  • Monitor and track project progress including budgets in a timely manner and implement corrective actions
  • Assist in design of project activities

    2. Planning and Implementation

    Key activities

  • Prepare work plans and operation plans for various elements/ components of the project on half yearly basis and an annual basis
  • Organize youth awareness events in conjunction with Marketing Department
  • Plan and implement youth awareness events

    3. Coordination

    Key activities

  • Interface with consortium partners and advocate for MSK’s priorities
  • Undertake regular visits to the field to supervise school based interventions.
  • Work closely with MSK regional teams to ensure donor targets are on the track and offer advice and support on field implementation

    4. Monitoring, documentation and reporting

    Key activities

  • Promote and undertake the documentation of good practices and synthesis of lessons learned, and ensure that these are reflected in improved training and management tools
  • Maintain a database of crucial project documents which track project progress.
  • Contribute to all aspects of the procurement process including drafting Terms of Reference
  • Track and report project results
  • Develop project reports

    5. Representation

  • Represent MSK at the County, national and International fora as required KPIs
  • Project targets achieved
  • Work plan approved and delivered on time
  • 2016 budget fully spent

    Skills and Experience


    Educated to Degree level


  • Experience in implementing donor projects
  • Experience in designing and implementing youth activities
  • Experience in dynamic, fast paced problem solving and turning around struggling initiatives
  • Experience managing external contractors and consultants
  • Experience as an advocate on youth issues, either at a policy level or within an organization
  • Experience in Marie Stopes Systems and processes (desirable)
  • Experience in reproductive health programming (desirable)


  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office package
  • Ability to design, implement and monitor effective project cycle management and monitoring and evaluation best practice
  • Confident presenter to high level faura
  • Analytical ability and a creative thinker
  • Understanding of, and ability to write and edit donor proposals and reports
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English, with exceptional writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Ability to manage a very heavy and fluctuating workload
