Job Description

Summary Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Water Technician Officer, under the direct supervision of the EH Manager, he/she will be responsible for preparing planning, implementation and monitoring the overall operation of water supply related works ,take the lead the operation care, maintenance and troubleshoot electromechanical equipment parts water supply system, the Water technician officer is mainly assist the water technician assistant to develop, establish and strengthen community based water supply management models through empowering beneficiary communities to own, manage and sustain their water supply facilities and systems.

Detailed Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Identification, development and review of electro-mechanical requirements, spare parts, fittings and supplies/inputs needed for ensuring the smooth operation of the water supply systems.
  • Ensure the availability of spares, tools and fittings needed, including reasonable contingency, for running of electro mechanical equipment and ensure smooth day to day water supply of the system. Prepare list for items needed, initiate procurement and follow their proper use.
  • Raise Personnel Requests for vacant post under his supervision.
  • Prepare and put log sheets, service schedules, pumping and water distribution schedules and in place water discharge tracking systems at each camp and monitor the implementation.
  • Collect and compile Fuel log and Water Meter log sheets from each sites, produce activity progress reports and forward to EHM as per the requirements and schedule.
  • Ensure daily availability of potable water meeting UNHCR minimum standards in each of the tap stands.
  • Monitor and ensure well-functioning of the service reservoirs, distribution lines, and water meters and over all pipe networks starting from source up to final points.
  • Regularly assess the functionality and maintenance requirements of electromechanical parts including the solar Pump, pressure and distribution lines, tap
    stands, water meters and other water supply systems.
  • Assist the Water Technician Assistants on development of manuals at the time of establish and train community based water management committees from beneficiaries, equip them with the necessary hand plumbing tools for maintenance, care & operation of the system.
  • And design effective community participation, monitoring system and feedback mechanisms that enables beneficiaries to own and sustain the system.
  • Identify, train, supervise and manage community water management, water system operators/guards, water system care takers and volunteers.
  • Daily supervise and monitor the performance, progress and daily assignments of Community water management committee, water system guard/ Operators and water system caretakers.
  • Assisting water technician assistants /operators/plumbers/guards to set their Key Performance Objectives (KPOs) and appraise bi-annual and annual Performance Evaluation (PE) under his direct supervision.
  • Follow and monitor the proper water quality activity.
  • Any additional tasks assigned by supervisor.

    Job Requirements

  • BSC/Diploma in Electro-Mechanical/ Mechanical Engineering, and related fields from recognized university/college/TVET

  • A minimum of 4 years for first degree holder and or six years for diploma holder,

  • Proven experience in areas of generator installation, generator servicing and maintenance, pump installation and servicing, plumbing and related water works and

  • NGO experience is a plus

    Additional Skills Required:

  • Basic computer knowledge (word, excel)
  • Basic English spoken and writing.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
