The company works with key partners such as Brokers, International Partners and other intermediaries to serve a wide client base.
A position has arisen within the Company’s Underwriting Department to provide leadership within the function.

Job title: head or Underwriting
Reporting to: director - operation and sales

Main purpose of the job Head of Underwriting is responsible for managing and coordinating all Underwriting activities in the Company, formulation of Underwriting policies, Risk assessment, business review and acquisition and retention of profitable business.

Key responsibilities and accountability
  • Formulation and implementation of underwriting policies in the company in line with the overall business strategy;
  • Provision of efficient customer service in all the Underwriting functions of the company, by ensuring continuous review of processes;
  • Build relevant and adequate data to facilitate efficient customer service and risk rating;
  • Provide leadership by training, guiding and mentoring staff on underwriting technical matters, and all other relevant areas;
  • Leverage on use of technology
    in service offering to customers;
  • Work closely with Claims Department, Customer Service and all other Departments within the company with a view to tapping on synergies;
  • Establishment and maintenance of good business relationship with Brokers, Agents, Services providers, Customers and the general public;
  • Continuous Business reviews to ensure quality business and profitability;
  • Identify gaps in product offering, close such gaps and develop new products to take care of changing customer needs;
  • Offer technical support on new business acquisition and retention of renewal business in line with company strategy;
  • Debt management at business entry point and renewal in line with the credit policy;
  • identify risks within the underwriting area and put in place controls to mitigate such risks. Key skills, knowledge, experience and personal competencies Education
  • University Degree from a recognized university, all or local insurance Diploma;
  • Masters Degree is an added advantage. Experience
  • At least twelve (12) years’ experience, of which five (5) years must be in Management in a busy underwriting environment;
  • Self-driven, decisive, analytical, team player, responsible and articulate in communication.
