    3. Livestock Production Officer-India Kenya Dairy Bridge Innovation Project (IKDBIP)

    Responsibilities

    (including approximate percentage effort)
  • Mobilization and strengthening of Dairy Interest Groups to become effective participants in the dairy production improvement activities (30%)
  • Coordinate the delivery of Grassroots Trainings to improve Dairy Productivity (30%)
  • Monitoring and Evaluation (20%)
  • Provide technical support to Producer organizations to set up effective extension coordination and management structures at the grassroots (15%)
  • Planning and Reporting (5%)
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisors

    Proficiencies:
  • Clear understanding of the dairy value chain and Heifer’s Value based model.
  • Experience in delivering extension services to small scale farmers
  • Innovative, analytical, and solutions oriented.
  • Strong farmer mobilization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement strategies aimed at providing institutional capacity building.
  • Knowledge of income and expense budget preparation and monitoring.
  • A good understanding and sensitivity to issues associated with poverty, hunger and environment, and knowledge of the context to which non-profit organizations operate.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the latest developments in advancing good/best practices in dairy productivity improvement and dairy value chain development that reaches women, youth, and underprivileged.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, electronic mail (Microsoft Office preferred) and Internet.
  • Knowledge of and experience with developing private/public partnerships at the district level.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English and other local languages, both oral and written.

  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
  • May require constant sitting; working at a computer and focusing for extended periods of time and performing office environment activities while on the road and/or in remote conditions.
  • Working with sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple tasks with little supervision while meeting sometimes inflexible deadlines.
  • Ability to work with small holder farmers in rural set up while appreciating the dynamics or rural extension system
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

    Required Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in setting robust and sustainable extension systems for producer organizations. This requirement is in line with the need to have in built ‘exit strategies’ within the project as a measure of ensuring that there are self-sustaining businesses by project end.
  • Significant experience in supporting producer organization to increase dairy production and productivity.

    4. Enterprise Development Manager
    Responsibilities and Deliverables

    (including approximate percentage effort)
    A. To be responsible for providing thee strategic inputs into all the Country Programme Business Development Work ( 40%)
    B. To contribute to improved governance and management of farmer producer organizations and cooperatives(30%).
    C. Develop amongst groups, association and cooperatives strong cooperative Values and Principles ( 20%).
    D. Collaboration towards a common goal( 10%)
    E. Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

    Critical Proficiencies:
  • Knowledge of and experience in agro-enterprise, commodity value-chain and cooperative development
  • Knowledge of and experience with or within community organizations
  • Knowledge of the non-profit sector and the context in which non-profit organizations operate
  • Fluent in national language/s and English, both spoken and written
  • Good leadership qualities
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills including strong attention to detail
  • Skills with Microsoft Office Suite, internet browser, and other appropriate technology.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to individuals diplomatically and tactfully.
  • Ability to integrate financial services within a value chain with the view to foster trust and build strong relationship between chain actors and financial service providers.

  • Sensitivity in working with multiple cultures and beliefs, and to gender equity

    Required Experience
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in the fields of Agriculture Economics, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Enterprise Development or other related field, plus five (5) years in a mix of economic growth/trade, value chain competitiveness, investment promotion, or agriculture development.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ management level work experience.
  • Significant experience in building public/private partnerships, preferably in the dairy sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting business, investment analyses, and capital budgeting and sufficient evidence on how the results were used to develop potentially viable business ideas and subsequently tangible businesses.
