Eastern Africa Standby Force Bilingual Secretary Jobs in Nairobi

The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) is one of the five regional components of the African Standby Force established by the African Union for the purpose of containing the scourge of conflicts and enhancing peace and security in the continent.

The Eastern Africa Region, as defined by the African Union Commission (AUC), is composed of 14 Member States: Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

The Eastern Africa Standby Force Secretariat wishes to recruit a competent bilingual secretary to support the current management systems.

Applications are invited from qualified candidates from the East African region (Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, and Uganda.) to fill the vacant position as outlined below.

Bilingual Secretary - Duties and Responsibilities

  • Typing and proof reading documents, reports, correspondence, messages etc as required by the Supervisors in English and Arabic.
  • Translation of documents to Arabic and English and vice versa from time to time as required by the Organization.
  • Receiving and drafting responses to routine correspondence.
  • Coordination of office functions with other offices within EASFSEC.


    Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in
    linguistics, English, Arabic, Education or relevant field from a recognized University.
  • Fluent in both English and Arabic. Knowledge of French is an added advantage.
  • Minimum five years working experience translating documents from English to Arabic or vice versa in a in a multicultural setting.
  • Excellent ICT skills including proficiency with main office software and knowledge of information systems, internet tools.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Be a person of high intergrity with no criminal record.
