Construction Company Environment Health and Safety Manager Jobs in Kenya


A leading global Construction Company is currently seeking to hire Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager for their construction site in Kenya. The role is a 2 Year contact and will be based in Murang'a County. The successful candidate will be tasked with a responsibility to review, update and manage Health and Safety policies, procedures and standards, makes regular inspections of the workplace, site or plant and conducts risk assessments and carry out compliance checks, report gaps, follow up identified gaps to ensure their closure. The EHS Manager will be reporting to the Project Manager and or the Chief Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, perform and oversee internal audits and manage external audits, and maintain the records, for inspecting and ensuring efficient running of EHS Management Systems;
  • Manage and review EHS Policies and Procedures, safe operating procedures, emergency procedures and related documents, ensuring that the documents are updated and is consistent;
  • Monitor site conditions, practices, and procedures for compliance with environmental, safety and health;
  • Assisting in the development of Activity Hazard Analysis;
  • Preparing and conducting weekly tool box safety meetings;
  • Conducting site inspections of project, work areas and equipment;
  • Assisting in the investigation of accidents and determining root causes and recommend corrective / preventive measures;
  • Training new employees and existing personnel on safety programs, policies and procedures;
  • Carrying out any other assigned tasks given by the Project Manager.

    Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in, Occupational Health and Safety OR Engineering OR Environmental Sciences, OR Operations/Construction Management OR equivalent;
  • Technical training in Occupational Health and Safety
    from a recognized institution. Any additional training e.g. in Fire Safety, First Aid etc. shall be an added advantage;
  • Registered with DOSHS and/or NEMA;
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) experience in a fast paced environment preferably in large Construction industry (experience in use of BS 6164 (Code of practice for health and safety in tunnelling in the construction industry will be preferred);
  • Should demonstrate working knowledge of World Bank Operation procedures and IFC Environmental, Health, and Safety Guidelines;
  • Working knowledge of policies, regulations, specifications and requirements governing Occupational health and safety;
  • Experience of working in confined spaces will be an advantage;
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures;
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
