HIV county coordinator

Chemonics seeks an HIV county coordinator for the Kenya Supply Chain Systems Strengthening (KSCSS) activity under the USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program – Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project. The GHSC-PSM project is the primary vehicle through which USAID procures and provides health commodities, provides technical assistance to improve partner countries’ management of the supply chain, and collaborates with key international stakeholders to support global health initiatives.

The purpose of KSCSS is to strengthen supply chain and health commodity systems of the family health, malaria, and HIV∕AIDS programs in Kenya. To advance this goal, KSCSS will provide technical assistance at both the county and national levels, supporting the Ministry of Health, Department of Family Health, National Malaria Control Program, and the National AIDS and STI Control Program (NASCOP).

This long-term position will be based in Kenya and includes intermittent local travel. The HIV country coordinator will report to the HIV technical advisor. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Technically assist and support the supervision of HIV commodity supply chains, liaising closely with the County
  • Health Management Team (CHMT) to ensure commodity availability in Kenya
  • Coordinate and technically support CHMT’s quantification of HIV commodities in orders for Kenya Medical Supply Agency and NASCOP
  • Support CHMT’s efforts to improve the management of HIV/AIDS commodities, become more efficient, and minimize wastage and losses
  • Assist CHMT with commodity distribution planning to ensure health facilities have sufficient stock to meet patient needs
  • Coordinate with CHMT to implement technical assistance activities to strengthen HIV/AIDS commodity management in the county health facilities
  • Regularly report on
    the stock status of commodities as well as health facility performance on HIV-related commodity security
  • Assist with end-use Verification (EUV) exercises and supervision to ensure that health managers are aware of up-to-date data collection methodologies
  • Technically assist CHMT with conducting and measuring performance monitoring and supervision activities at the health facility level
  • Inform KSCSS leadership of any potential short-term technical assistance needs
  • Assist with preparing annual work plans, quarterly and annual reports, activity reports, and other related communications
  • Provide or organize technical assistance and training for health workers at all levels in HIV commodity management
  • Collaborate with other members of the technical team focused on systems strengthening and the electronic Logistics
  • Management Information System to establish a harmonized approach to ensuring that health managers have the skills to address supply chain needs in the county
  • Perform other duties, as required and assigned

    Qualifications:

  • Clinical degree or a degree in public health
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in health programs; experience in health care supply chain management preferred
  • Experience managing public health programs in Kenya or in another similar developing country
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor, supervise, and train in health service programs
  • Extensive knowledge of the Kenyan public health sector
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in writing and in oral presentations
  • Demonstrated self-managing skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability and willingness to travel in the field
  • Kenyan citizenship strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
