The Zayed Prize is the world’s most valuable environmental award, worth US$1 million.

Through the United Nations Economic and Social Council, Zayed International Prize for the Environment has consultative status with the UN.

Awarded on a biennial basis, the Prize recognizes and promotes pioneering contributions in the field of environment and sustainable development.

The Zayed Prize is classified into three award categories:

  • Global leadership in environment and sustainable development: US$ 500,000
  • Scientific/ technological achievements in environment: US$ 300,000
  • Environmental action leading to positive change in society: US$ 200,000.

    Each prize winner will receive the award (shared equally in case of more than one winner from each category), a Trophy and a Zayed Prize Diploma at a special award ceremony

    The Zayed Prize is open to individuals, organizations, partnerships and projects.

    The prize can be awarded for achievement over a long period of time or for a single outstanding initiative.

    Nominee:

    The nominee must have:

  • Advanced the cause of the environment and its contribution to sustainable development;
  • Mobilized regional/global efforts towards addressing sustainable development issues.
  • Successfully solved a major environmental problem, or accomplished sustained environmental improvement for a period of time;
  • Contributed significantly to intellectual, scientific or theoretical approaches to environmental concerns;
  • Brought to public or policy makers’ attention significant environmental issues and/or succeeded in mobilizing action toward their solution;
  • Undertaken environmental activities and initiatives at the grass roots level, leading to positive change in society, and which can serve as a model for replication.
