The Joseph Black Award

The Joseph Black Award is for a young scientist in any field covering the practice and teaching of analytical science.

Sponsored by the Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund.

Rules and Criteria

  • Run annually

  • Open everyone with no restrictions

  • Candidates are permitted to nominate themselves

  • Candidates must be in their early career, i.e. aged 40 or under. The age specified is intended to guide nominators and selection panelists; appropriate consideration will be given to those who have taken career breaks or followed different study paths.

  • Name and contact details of two referees required who will be contacted by the RSC - these may include the candidate's post-doc or PhD supervisor

  • Nominations open on 1st September

  • Nominations close on 31st January

  • Prize winner will be chosen by the RSC Analytical Division Awards Committee

  • Award winner receives £2000, a medal and a certificate
