The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), is seeking an innovative, self-motivated, scientifically outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral fellow position in socioeconomics.

The position is initially available for one year with an opportunity for an extension, but may lead to a career path position for an outstanding scientist.

The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and working in countries of East and Southern Africa.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:

  • PhD in agricultural or development economics or related field.
  • Excellent skills to collect, manage and analyze qualitative and quantitative socio-economic data (PRA, RRA, household surveys, market surveys).
  • Knowledge of farm household survey methods, and analytical capacity in econometrics and mathematical programming.
  • Good writing and oral skills in English.
  • Ability to work in multicultural teams.
  • Preferably at least 2 years of pre / post PhD research in the region on maize farming systems.
  • Regional languages (Eastern/Southern Africa in particular) an advantage.
