The Copenhagen Business School, Department of Intercultural Communication and Management, and the LSE Department of Media and Communications invite applications to spend 12 months from October and another 6 months from October the following years at LSE.

For the remaining 18 months the candidate will be at Copenhagen Business School as a part of the Department of Intercultural Communication and Management’s Media Hub.

This PhD call invites research proposals that explore the relationship between mediation and cosmopolitanism across media technologies (print, electronic or new) and media practices (production, dissemination or consumption), with a specific emphasis on the ethical dimensions of mediation.

The scholarship, granted by the Danish Research Council, will fund a PhD project that:

  • investigates the ways different media technologies, practices and representations negotiate tensions between the private and the public, the proximal and the distant, the self and the 'other';
  • discusses the implications that such technologies practices and representations may bear on our ethical orientation vis a vis distant others and
  • reflects on the possibilities for transforming and improving such technologies, practices and/or representations in line with the vision of a cosmopolitan public space.

    A PhD scholarship runs for a period of 3 years and is only awarded to applicants with a Master’s degree.

    Application deadline: 2 March, at 12:00 noon.
