International PhD Scholarship in Fixed and Wireless Unified Signal Transport - Denmark

The Systems group at COM-DTU, Department of Communications, Optics and Materials invites applications for a PhD-scholarship position granted by Danish Research Council within the program of International PhD projects.

The assignment is for 36 months, fixed term, with a start date as soon as possible.

TRANSIWOF: Transport of wireless signals in a unified fixed-wireless optical signal distributor

COM-DTU is developing an integrated access system, as well as technologies which enable realization of cost-effective broadband optical access network. Services for high bit-rate fixed, and high-speed wireless systems are integrated into a common platform.

In such future networks, the wireless signals arriving to the remote access node will have different modulation formats, speeds and service requirements according to the various existing and emerging standards.

Moreover, it is preferred that the optical link to the customer premises, or at least the last span of it, is implemented by using a single fibre where bidirectional communication is still possible.

The PhD student will investigate transmission techniques of multi-standard wireless signals over a broadband bidirectional access optical signal distributor.

The position entails rich possibilities for cross-disciplinary work, especially with the Nanophotonic group and other research groups at COM•DTU.

The candidate is expected to conduct a research stay of up to 18 months with our project partner, the Scuola Superiore Sant’ Anna, Pisa, Italy.

The candidate should have a master’s degree in engineering, physics or equivalent and an excellent background in telecommunications, optical communication, radio communication, or engineering physics.

The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU.

Information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies is included in the general rules of DTU, which may be obtained by application to the PhD programme office at tel: +45 4525 1176 or +45 4525 1177.

The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students.

For further information please contact Professor Palle Jeppesen, e-mail:pj@com.dtu.dk and/or Associate Professor Idelfonso Tafur Monroy, e-mail: itm@com.dtu.dk.

All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.

Please send your application by regular mail (e-mail applications will not be processed) in triplicate, including CV and documentation of a completed master’s degree to:
