The Arthur Helton Fellowship Program program will assist students and young lawyers in need of modest sums (up to $1000) to pursue their first opportunities to engage in human rights work and research.
Fellows will undertake their project in association with an established educational institution, international organization, or non-governmental organization working in areas related to international law, human rights, and humanitarian affairs.
Eligibility Guidelines/Qualifications:
Applicants can be of any nationality but must be current law students or have graduated from law school no earlier than December 2005.
The successful applicant's proposal will involve affiliation with an NGO or human rights organization;
Applicants should have contacted the sponsoring organization to discuss their proposal prior to applying for the Helton Fellowship.
In acknowledgment of Arthur Helton's commitment to human rights advocacy in the field, preferential consideration may be given to proposals demonstrating a significant fieldwork component.
Application submissions are limited to one per person.

The deadline for completed application submissions is Friday February 15, 2008. Awards will be made by March 24, 2008.

Writing Sample (2-3 pages)
Current CV or resume
Evidence of law student status and/or date of graduation from a law school
Two letters of support (see instructions on application form)
