World Wide Fund for Nature Africa Energy Programme Coordinator Jobs in Uganda


Job Summary

As the officer responsible for ensuring effective implementation of the Africa Energy
Programme, the coordinator’s principal duty is to promote, fundraise for, and coordinate the
development and implementation of the Africa Energy Programme in close collaboration with
the key participating country offices and the relevant WWF Global Practices and Practice Focal Points in Africa. Specifically, the Africa Energy Programme Coordinator:

Responsibilities

  • Supports and facilitates further development of the Africa Energy Programme, in
    alignment with the WWF Global Energy and Climate Practice Strategy, including
    development of an overall Programme Strategic Framework and a Monitoring and
    Evaluation (M&E) plan.
  • Leads the identification, packaging and marketing of new project proposals to potential
    donors and partners.
  • Facilitates the establishment of an Africa Energy Enabling Team, including identification
    of suitable representatives of both internal and external partners and serving as a
    secretariat for the same, to facilitate the successful implementation of the Africa Energy
    Programme
  • In cooperation with Communication staff from participating WWF Country offices,
    develops and coordinates public engagement and communication campaigns (such as
    Earth Hour) on key energy issues in the region.
  • Develops and strengthens partnerships with actors and donors that are supporting or
    may support implementation of the Africa Energy Programme.
  • Ensures that all Projects under the Africa Energy Programme are gender sensitive,
    support human rights, inclusive and participatory.
  • Ensures that the Africa Energy Programme is implemented in accordance with WWF
    standards, values and principles.

    Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Environment and Natural Resources Management;
  • Specific studies in energy and climate change, development studies, international
    development, social sciences, communication expertise are added advantages;
  • At least 7 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Experience in sustainable energy development;
  • Experience in civil society organizational capacity development, lobbying, advocacy,
    natural resources management; and
  • Fluency in English and at least one other major language spoken (Swahili, French, and
    Portuguese) in East Africa and Southern Africa region is an added advantage.

    World Wide Fund for Nature Biodiversity Conservation Manager Jobs in Uganda

    Responsibilities

  • Mission of the Forest and Biodiversity Program: To ensure successful implementation
    and sustained growth of the Forest and Biodiversity Program as per the WWF UCO Strategic Plan.
  • The Biodiversity Manager will support the Forest and Biodiversity Program
    Coordinator in planning, management, coordination, supervision, and monitoring of biodiversity conservation and management activities to ensure efficient and timely delivery of program goals, objectives, and targets.
  • Promote and support innovations and adoption of best practices aimed at curbing
    poaching, illegal wildlife trafficking and trade.
  • Promote tourism and ecotourism and other non-consumptive wildlife based enterprises
    within protected areas and adjacent communities.
  • Promote and support development and implementation of Protected Area (PA)
    Management Plans in line with internationally recognized best practices.
  • Promote and support establishment of sustainable financing mechanisms (through public private partnerships) for efficient management of priority Protected Areas.
  • Promote and support development and implementation of comprehensive HumanWildlife
    Conflict Management Plans for priority Protected Areas.
  • Support development and implementation of flagship Species Management Plans.
  • Provide technical leadership in planning, management, and implementation of biodiversity
    conservation and management activities under the WWF UCO Forest
    and Biodiversity
    Program.
  • Undertake routine monitoring and evaluation of ongoing biodiversity conservation and
    management activities to track progress, document lessons, and assess their impacts on
    livelihoods of target communities and delivery of overall UCO conservation goals.

    Qualifications

  • Master of Science Degree in Wildlife Management, Natural Resources Management, or a related discipline is a MUST.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in biodiversity conservation and management work.Specific work experience in the Albertine Graben would be a strong added advantage.
  • Previous work experience or engagement with sector agencies (including National Forest
    Authority, Uganda Wildlife Authority, National Environment Management Authority, The
    Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities, etc.) is an added advantage.
  • Experience in working with civil society organizations and the private sector is an added advantage.

    World Wide Fund for Nature Community Conservation Manager Jobs in Uganda

    Responsibilities

  • Strengthen CSOs at local and national levels to promote good governance of biodiversity and important natural resource areas in the Albertine Graben
  • Promote sustainable pro-poor conservation approaches that sustainably benefit conservation and development aspirations of the communities adjacent the high value conservation areas
  • Establish innovative financing approaches to sustain conservation and development efforts of communities living adjacent high conservation value areas in the Albertine Graben
  • Engage communities in CBNRM interventions and enterprises that aim to restore degraded
    landscapes, improve climate change resilience, food security, reduce pressure on natural
    resources
  • Regularly produce and disseminate high quality impact and communication stories resulting from the interventions
  • Plan and oversee the execution of project activities according to the project contract and all subsequently determined work plans
  • Manage staff, financial and other program resources with highest level of integrity
  • Plan and oversee the use of the project budget and ensure delivery of outputs in an efficient and effective manner justifying value for money at all times
  • Build a constituency of Civil Society actors and multi-stake holder platforms to leverage financial and technical support for implementation of community conservation initiatives
  • Work with communities adjacent protected areas to address Human-Wildlife Conflicts

    Qualifications

  • Minimum five years’ experience in or a similar field;
  • Track record of developing and delivering pro-poor ecosystem management projects, with a
    particular focus on governance and benefit;
  • Minimum six years’ experience of project management;
  • Demonstrable experience engaging with government, private sector and civil society at all levels;
  • Experience of working with international organizations;
  • Experience working local government and the local communities;
  • Familiarity with National Forest Authority, Uganda Wildlife Authority, National Environment
    Management Authority, Ministry of Water and Environment are desired.
