World Vision Uganda is a Christian relief, development and advocacy non-government organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.

We currently work in over 82 districts in Uganda implementing projects in health & nutrition, water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), livelihoods & community resilience, education and child protection.

World Vision (WV) is committed to the protection of children and adult beneficiaries from exploitation and abuse and will not employ people whose background is not suitable for working with the beneficiaries above.

  • Safeguarding Coordinator

    Report to:

  • Child Protection Technical Lead


  • Kampala – National Office

    Purpose of the position:

    The Safeguarding coordinator will coordinate and support implementation of World Vision’s Child and Adult Safeguarding policy, including updating and operationalizing safeguarding requirements and procedures, ongoing capacity building and awareness raising on safeguarding issues, meeting internal reporting requirements, and case management of specific safeguarding incidents as required.

    Key Outputs/Responsibilities

    Policy Coordination & Monitoring

  • Together with the Child Protection Lead, guide process to update and contextualize new Safeguarding Policy in accordance with guidance from WVI Global Centre and, where necessary, grant donor requirements.
  • Develop/implement accompanying action plan.
  • Coordinate WVU Safeguarding Steering Committee.
  • Undertake monitoring, as guided by management, to ensure proper policy implementation.

    Build Capacity & Awareness

  • Work across WVU offices and departments to provide ongoing training and awareness raising on Safeguarding Policy.
  • Develop and coordinate a capacity building and training strategy for safeguarding children and adult beneficiaries (all staff).
  • Promote understanding of safeguarding standards by all staff and affiliates, including the obligation for all WV people to immediately report known or suspected child/adult beneficiary safeguarding
  • Supports Operations and other teams to emplace community feedback mechanisms in all community based programmes; these mechanisms are safe and confidential for use by children and vulnerable adults, and hold WV accountable for any misconduct or harm to beneficiaries.

    Coordinate Safeguarding Reporting

  • Ensure effective management of incident reporting (via Ethics Point) across WVU, in accordance with WVI policy requirements.
  • Meet all other internal reporting requirements, including the Safeguarding Update Report.

    Management of Safeguarding Incidents

  • Ensure all safeguarding incidents are investigated and responded to appropriately. This shall include direct response to specific incidents, as directed.


  • The role may also include support, coordination, guidance and/or direct implementation of other safeguarding-related work, including but not limited to:
  • Support field teams in preparation of Child Protection Incident Preparedness Plans and community feedback mechanisms.
  • Support Child Protection Lead in externally representing WVU in matters relating to safeguarding.
  • Able to advise project design, including grant proposals, as required, on matters related to safeguarding.


    Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • Education: Degree in law, social work or other relevant field is a requirement.
  • Technical skills: Academic and/or direct programming experience/expertise in safeguarding, PSEA or child protection.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a safeguarding, PSEA or child protection focused role.
  • Experience in working for a large NGO or other large organization
  • Experience in working with gender-based violence is an advantage.
  • Strong capacity in relationship management/networking, and coordination is essential.
  • Proactive personality, self-driven and strongly motivated.
  • Spiritual maturity, interfaith knowledge and a biblical worldview – Ability to articulate and model our Christian identity and mission in an inclusive way.
  • Demonstration of well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven facilitation skills.
  • Team player.
  • Ensure a gender perspective in the scope of work.
  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 30% of the time.
