Job Responsibilities
Technical and Strategic Leadership
Coordinate, provide technical support, and implement programme objectives.
Ensure programme deliverables are achieved effectively, timely, and in compliance with donor, WV Kenya, and government standards.
Provide strategic leadership and direction to programme staff and stakeholders.
Coordinate restoration interventions with KFS, county governments, CFAs, WRUAs, and local institutions.
Oversee assessment and documentation of land tenure, carbon rights, and eligibility requirements.
Ensure compliance with carbon standards, land‑use regulations, environmental laws, and safeguards.
Lead stakeholder engagement on carbon ownership, benefit‑sharing, and participation agreements.
Maintain accurate programme records for carbon registration, verification, and audits.
Align restoration approaches with county and national forest strategies.
Develop implementation strategies and work plans aligned with approved PDD and budgets.
Ensure quality monitoring and evaluation of programme interventions.
Manage budgets and ensure timely utilization of resources.
Mainstream gender, youth, and conflict‑sensitive programming.
Lead, inspire, and manage a high‑performing project team.
Mentor staff in programme delivery, compliance, and stakeholder engagement.
Drive recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning.
Promote staff wellbeing, safeguarding, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Quality Assurance – Implementation, Monitoring, Reporting & Evaluation
Develop detailed plans to support delivery of programme objectives.
Ensure accurate and quality Programme Design Documents (PDD).
Implement interventions to achieve proposed outcomes and impacts.
Track expenditure levels and manage budgets.
Ensure acceptable financial and operational audit results.
Enforce controls and respond to audit findings.
Conduct baseline surveys and disseminate findings.
Maintain effective complaints and feedback mechanisms.
Submit timely and quality reports (monthly, quarterly, semi‑annual, annual).
Document best practices, success stories, innovations, and lessons learnt.
Produce and disseminate communications resources for stakeholders.
Partnership, Coordination & Networking
Establish partnerships with government institutions, regulatory agencies, research organizations, and development partners.
Lead stakeholder coordination with community institutions, producer groups,
and cooperatives.
Facilitate participatory planning and decision‑making processes.
Ensure implementation of FPIC principles and compliance with safeguards.
Oversee design and implementation of equitable benefit‑sharing mechanisms.
Promote participation of women, youth, Indigenous Peoples, and vulnerable groups.
Advocacy: Policy & Budget Influence
Coordinate advocacy and policy influence initiatives at county and national levels.
Increase visibility of WVK and donor through active engagement on NRM matters.
Qualifications / Work Experience
Academic Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Agro‑forestry, Rangeland Management, or related discipline.
Academic Postgraduate degree in related field desirable.
Professional Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in natural resource management, forestry, climate change, restoration, or conservation.
Professional Demonstrated experience leading restoration programmes involving protected and community lands.
Professional Knowledge of Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) and carbon project lifecycles.
Professional Experience with forest governance structures and community NRM systems.
Professional Strong understanding of land tenure systems and community engagement.
Professional Knowledge of gender and diversity issues with commitment to inclusion.
Professional Good financial/budget management and people management skills.
Professional Ability to work independently, innovatively, and strategically under pressure.
Professional GHG accounting/carbon certification or training in VCS, Gold Standard, or CDM (advantage).
