Key Responsibilities

Applied Research, Evidence Synthesis & Child Data Insights

  • Lead applied research and evidence synthesis using AIM/AIM+ and other datasets.

  • Deliver annual AIM/AIM+ insight narrative as a research/learning product.

  • Commission secondary analyses of large household datasets to generate cross‑country insights.

  • Set interpretation standards for child‑data research, ensuring responsible use.

  • Coordinate with DMEAL and data governance on data quality and availability.

    OP3 Applied Research Portfolio & Commissioned Studies

  • Translate OP3 research agenda into sequenced portfolio of studies.

  • Commission and lead rigorous research designs across multiple sectors.

  • Develop and approve research questions, protocols, TORs, analysis plans and ethics pathways.

  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure feasibility and usability.

    External Research Partnerships, Publications & Funding

  • Develop partnerships with universities and research institutions.

  • Shape joint research through co‑PI models, advisory groups and fellowship pipelines.

  • Build publication and dissemination pathways including peer‑reviewed outputs and donor‑facing products.

  • Mobilise technical and funding leverage by aligning WV data assets with external expertise.

  • Represent WV research agenda with academic partners, donors and evidence networks.

    Learning Translation, Influence & Research Uptake

  • Translate findings into leadership‑ready insight products, briefs and donor narratives.

  • Define evidence‑to‑decision pathways for each major research product.

  • Facilitate uptake with programme, advocacy, communications and leadership teams.

  • Track research impact on decisions, external use and resource mobilisation.

  • Ensure evidence claims are accurate, proportionate and defensible.

    Research Governance, Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Lead a leveraged research and learning platform with internal and external researchers.

  • Set annual workplan, quality standards and technical review cadence.

  • Line‑manage and matrix‑manage research staff and consultants.

  • Build organisational capability in research commissioning, ethics and evidence translation.

  • Ensure responsible data practice, safeguarding and child‑sensitive standards.

    Required Education & Training

  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Data Science, Economics, Social Sciences, International Development or related field.

  • Formal training
    in quantitative methods, research design, evaluation and data analysis.

    Required Professional Experience

  • Minimum 12 years’ progressive experience in applied research, evidence synthesis, evaluation or data science.

  • Experience leading multi‑country, multi‑sector research portfolios.

  • Proven expertise in quantitative/mixed‑methods research using large datasets.

  • Experience synthesising evidence across multiple sources.

  • Experience commissioning and overseeing external research studies.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate evidence for leaders, donors and external audiences.

  • Proven cross‑sector experience (health, nutrition, WASH, livelihoods, child protection, climate, faith, humanitarian).

  • Experience building partnerships with universities, donors and foundations.

  • Strong applied skills in statistical software (R, Python, Stata, SPSS) and BI tools (Power BI).

  • Experience leading virtual, matrixed and cross‑cultural teams.

    Language & Travel

  • Fluent in English.

  • Willingness to travel up to 15%.

  • Ability to work effectively in global, virtual, matrixed environments.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent senior applied research leadership record.

  • Track record of peer‑reviewed publications and donor‑facing evidence products.

  • Experience with child wellbeing, public health, nutrition, WASH, livelihoods, resilience, climate and humanitarian research.

  • Experience with advanced methods (longitudinal, quasi‑experimental, causal inference, econometric, evidence synthesis).

  • Experience with responsible data governance, ethics and safeguarding.

  • Experience securing or shaping research grants and partnerships.

  • Working proficiency in French, Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic an advantage.
