    Purpose of Position

  • The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Program Management Unit (PMU) for Climate Asset Management-CAM project in Kenya in implementing its communication and visibility plan. The position is responsible for media and public engagements; providing support to the consortium related communications for all the seven implementing partners across the four programme location counties.

  • It aims to operationalize a broad field communications agenda for both local and global stakeholders to increase the overall influence, income and impact of Restore Africa Programme and World Vision Kenya for child well-being by performing core communications and media functions of the Programme and of the Livelihood & Resilience Technical Programme.

    Major Responsibilities:

    Production of Communications Resources for GEA (Media, Internal, Emergency, Advocacy, Community Voice Comms)

  • Production of high quality, Natural Resource Management, livelihoods, child focused, compelling and issues-oriented fundraising, advocacy and publicity materials (web-based, electronic, print, photo and video content) for effective and public engagement.

  • Produce high quality, NRM, child-focused visual (photo and/or video) content that engages broad audiences and enables supporter transformation, staff engagement, and advocacy and revenue generation.

  • Develop and maintain media contacts, pitch compelling NRM content and position GEA in influential media outlets in the national and global levels.

  • Produce rapid information and compelling needs and impact-focused content for Partnership communications and marketing for environment and climate change related issues.

  • Prepare written project materials, internal newsletters, presentation materials and other communications products for the CAM, GoK, GEA Consortium.

  • Develop and publish digital content for GEA
    Identify story concepts, host and accompany CAM, other donor, Support Offices, or VIP visits

  • Design and manage a project website and a social media platform that engage audiences

  • Contribute articles, stories, blog and any other information on GEA on to the integrated WV Kenya website

    Planning, Partnerships and Capacity Building

  • Provide communications advice including crafting of relevant messages and use of the right media

  • Create relationships and connections utilizing various channels for information sharing, learning, influence to help shape and advance the communications agenda

  • Develop strategic solutions
    to given communications challenges.

  • Conceptualization of video productions with NO-based Videographer

  • Facilitate training on communications for development skills for GEA Staff and Consortium members’ staff

  • Train and position approved media spokespersons to respond to media inquiries and achieve positive coverage for GEA Grant and World Vision Kenya

  • Support the Resource Acquisition and Management (RAM) team by producing communication resources/materials for marketing the GEA grant

    Learning, Documentation and Quality Assurance

  • Document successful stories/case studies and best, and share these during learning/knowledge management events

  • In consultation with MEAL and coordination with WV Kenya Program Director organize learning and knowledge sharing events

  • Review project publications and external marketing engagement materials for alignment to WVI quality and brand.

    Other responsibilities

  • Carry out any duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor or designee

  • Attend and participate in daily and weekly chapel and devotional meetings

    Knowledge, Qualification and Skills for the Role

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, external communications, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required.

  • A minimum of three years of experience in leading social media campaigns and analytics with understanding of the best practices of main social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc writing for the web and day-to-day running of social media accounts (with sensitivity and an understanding of different audiences and subject matter)

  • Experience working in a communications office or for a media outlet in print, radio or television is desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, Marketing, English, Journalism or a related discipline. A Master’s degree in Communications, Media Relations or a similar filed is preferred.

  • Media Council of Kenya accreditation is an added advantage

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated experience in strong editorial skills, with experience of editing content for digital publication and distribution

  • Strong communicator who works well independently and with the team

  • Ability to think strategically and identify ways to improve communication efforts.

  • Understanding of communications, public relations and marketing best practices.

  • Knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign, and Illustrator is an asset.

  • Photo/video editing skills are desirable.
