Job Description

Purpose of the position:

The Effective Approaches in Ending Worst Forms of Child Labour (EAPEC) Project Coordinator will lead the implementation of major components of the project: empowering children and their communities with awareness of their rights, facilitating access to education and vocational training; develop marketable skills for youth to secure decent work, social protection, capacity building, livelihood and youth employment in three target woredas, strengthening the legal and policy environment & Improving supply chain due diligence and duty of care from the bottom up.

The coordinator will ensure that direct project services are delivered to children/youth who are engaged in worst forms of child labor.

The EAPEC project coordinator will also work closely with the concerned regional, zone and woreda government offices, community representative, EAPEC project partners, TVET colleges and WVE’s team at Head Office, Regional Office and Area Programs.

Major Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Knowledge Management

  • Coordinates the planning, implementation and monitoring of EAPEC project components/activities including the empowerment of children & families with awareness of their rights, access to education and vocational training; develop marketable skills for youth to secure decent work, social protection, capacity building, livelihood, law enforcement, & social protection in the targeted three woredas.

  • Provides administartive and technical leadership to 8 EAPEC project officers to implement project activities and achieve the intended project outcomes and outputs

  • Coordinates project officers to ensure that the project budget and other resources are utilized in an efficient way in line with the guidelines and manuals of DFID, WV Ethiopia and that of the government

  • Provide leadership to ensure the integration of EAPEC project components with the RO, CPO and AP interventions by working with the AP Managers if applicable.

  • Create strong networking and partnership with EAPEC partners and others at different levels for smooth operation of the EAPEC project
    activities in the targeted areas

  • Coordinate the documentation of successful experiences, promising practices and lesson learned events

  • Monitor the status of the project and serve as a good bridge for management team particularly day-to-day operation of project activities

  • Represent WVE in any relevant meetings, forums, discussions, etc regarding any EAPEC project aspects in the target region and woreda

  • Submit monthly, quarterly and biannual reports to AP Managers, Project Director, CPO and other partners

  • Guide project officers to effectively implement the activities as per the work plan, required standards and quality

    Job Requirements

    Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

    The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • MA/MSc in Social work; Sociology; Development Studies; Economics; Educational and Vocational Training Planning
  • Proven certificate in planning, implementing and evaluation of multi-sector projects specifically in child development and protection
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in managing programs related to education, youth skill development, youth employment, empowerment of children, child protection, livelihood and related projects
  • Working experience with consortium project implementation context
  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English and Amharic.

  • Team-builder and team-player (managing team of diversified background)
  • Analytical skill
  • Pro-active in sharing information
  • Tenacious and flexible in high- working pressure situation with limited resources
  • High level organizing, coordinating and guiding multi-sector project skills and experiences are needed
  • Experience of people and project management is essential
  • Dynamic, analytic skills, self-starter and commitment are very important
  • Managing multisector projects in integrated manner

    Working Environment / Conditions:

    The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time.
