Job Purpose

The Materials Development and Knowledge Management Advisor will work under the direction of the READ II Senior Advisor for Community Outreach. READ II is a USAID funded project led by Creative Associates International and its partners, one of which is World Vision.

This position will be responsible for managing the manuals and tools that the project uses to help volunteers, teachers and parents enable children to read in their communities.

The Advisor will also lead or co-lead master Training of Trainers (ToT) to equip participants to cascade their training and materials to additional trainers.

Lastly, the Advisor will oversee broadcast content via SMS, radio, and/or TV to prompt communities to support children’s reading.
1.Major Responsibilities

1. Manage manual development for the Community Outreach component of the READ II project.
  • Develop or collaborate with curriculum developer to produce training manuals and tools that help volunteers, teachers and parents enable children to read.
  • Manage timelines for an international technical curriculum developer to produce final versions of training manuals/tools.
  • Revise and edit training manuals based on feedback from trainee participants in collaboration with international curriculum developer.
  • Oversee translation process of project manuals/tools into seven local languages

    2. Lead trainings and feedback session to refine training content.

  • Lead validation sessions at woreda, regional and national levels of the ministry on Community Outreach manuals to ensure content is well understood by target trainees.
  • Lead or co-lead regional level Training of Trainers to ensure knowledge transfer of Community Outreach methodologies and manuals.
  • Lead refresher trainings in subsequent years.
  • Obtain trainee feedback on training content to influence future manual revisions

    3. Oversee broadcast content on the role of communities in supporting children’s reading.

  • As part of project’s overall Community Outreach strategy, develop SMS messages encouraging parents and youth to help children read in their communities.
  • Develop content for radio mini-series and/or TV show discussion on the role of communities in supporting children’s reading
  • Manage all aspects of contracting and broadcasting with radio and TV outlets.

    4. Produce and/or assist with quarterly/annual reports, work plans, and success stories as needed.

    Job Requirements

    Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • BA degree in degree in one of the following fields is required: Education, Instructional Design, Media and Journalism, Communications, English Language, and other related fields with a minimum of 5 years of working experience in production of written and broadcast material.

  • Proven experience in developing educational content such as manuals, guides, and tools.

  • Strong English communication skills, both interpersonal and written.

    Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

    1. MA degree in Education, Instructional Design, Media and Journalism, Communications, English Language, and other related fields

    2. Knowledge and familiarity working in education and related sectors

    3. Having an education or related background and NGO experience is preferred

    4. Having experience with international donor-funded projects is preferred

    Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field
  • Travel: 40% Domestic travel is required.

    3. on call: 15%
