World University Service of Canada DREEM Senior Finance Officer Jobs in Kenya; The Senior Finance Officer supports finance functions for the DREEM Project, including internal controls, accounting database management, staff training, budget and cash management.
The role ensures compliance with donor requirements, strengthens financial systems, and provides technical support across Pan‑African operations.

Core Responsibilities

1. Month End Close‑Out

  • Lead monthly close‑out process, transaction review, reconciliations, adjusting entries, and financial reporting.

    2. Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Enforce financial control measures to safeguard assets.

  • Ensure transactions and reporting meet local laws and donor requirements.

  • Review payments for completeness and adherence to policies.

    3. Cashflow Management
  • Project cash flow, manage revenue, and develop budgetary projections.

  • Support cash transfer requests from HQ.

  • Develop frameworks to minimize foreign exchange risks.

    4. Audit & Compliance
  • Support internal/external audits by organizing documentation and following up on findings.

    5. Variance Analysis
  • Conduct comparisons of actual expenditures vs. approved budgets.

  • Investigate variances and forecast future funding needs.

    6. Cross‑Functional Support
  • Provide financial training to non‑finance staff to improve budget management and compliance.

    7. Financial Reporting & Accounting
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, reconciliations, and financial statements.

  • Ensure adherence to IFRS standards.

    8. Team Leadership & Support
  • Supervise and mentor junior finance staff.

  • Train non‑finance teams on
    financial policies and procedures.

    Qualifications & Competencies

    Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s preferred).

    Professional Qualification
  • CPA(K) or ACCA required; ICPAK membership preferred.

    Experience
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance within an international NGO.

  • Experience with institutional donors essential.

  • Experience preparing for and coordinating audits.

    Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in budget development, monitoring, and reporting.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics, Netsuite, SAGE).

  • Strong risk mitigation and compliance knowledge.

    Languages

  • Fluent in English; French preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Strong interpersonal and training skills.
