World Agroforestry Centre Chief of Staff and Board Secretary Jobs in Kenya;We are seeking a Chief of Staff and Board Secretary to provide strategic advisory support to the CEO, lead the Office of the CEO, and serve as principal liaison to the Board of Trustees. The postholder will strengthen governance, ensure effective decision‑making and coordination, and oversee statutory compliance and institutional risk management.
Responsibilities
Executive Advisory & Leadership
Provide strategic advice to the CEO on priorities, risks and decision readiness.
Prepare briefing notes, decision papers and talking points for engagements.
Lead the Office of the CEO, strengthening systems, budgeting and information flow.
Supervise and mentor staff, ensuring accuracy, discretion and responsiveness.
Represent the CEO in internal forums as delegated.
Board Secretariat & Governance
Serve as Board Secretary and principal liaison to Trustees and Committees.
Lead governance calendar, agenda setting, documentation and follow‑up.
Ensure accurate Board packs, resolutions, minutes and records.
Advise on governance protocols, bylaws and compliance requirements.
Oversee statutory filings, audits and reporting obligations.
Manage annual Board budget and resources.
Decision Follow‑Through & Coordination
Translate Board decisions into management actions with clear accountability.
Maintain consolidated tracker of commitments and monitor progress.
Coordinate responses to Board, audit and assurance findings.
Drive coordination across functions to ensure consistent implementation.
Special Initiatives
Lead special projects including governance reform, policy review and risk management.
Support CEO performance review, Board effectiveness reviews and Trustee onboarding.
Communications & Representation
Prepare and quality assure CEO and Board communications.
Coordinate internal communications on governance outcomes.
Strengthen engagement with Trustees and
external stakeholders.
Represent the CEO in meetings and ensure commitments are advanced.
Safeguarding & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety policies.
Safeguard wellbeing and dignity of staff, Trustees and stakeholders.
Mitigate risks and uphold institutional integrity.
Requirements
Education
Advanced degree in Public Administration, Law, Governance, International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science or Business.
Experience
Minimum 10 years in executive office leadership or governance.
Experience serving as or supporting a Board Secretary.
Proven track record advising executives and translating strategy into execution.
Experience leading institutional change or governance reform.
Skills & Competencies
Strong command of governance principles and compliance frameworks.
Exceptional drafting, analytical and communication skills.
Proficiency in digital governance platforms (e.g., Diligent Boards) and MS Office.
High integrity, discretion and ability to manage sensitive information.
Sound political judgement and ability to remain neutral in contested situations.
Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
Effective leadership across multicultural and international environments.
