Duty station: The post will be based in Isiolo, with extensive travel to project areas in Isiolo County and with possible travels to the Nairobi office.

WeWorld GVC is an independent Italian organization emerged from the union between GVC NGO (constituted in Bologna in 1971) and WeWorld (founded in Milano in 1999), with the aim of increasing the impact of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid projects in 29 countries, including Italy.

WeWorld-GVC has been operating in Kenya since 2009 implementing projects in the counties of Nairobi, Narok, Nyamira, Migori and Homabay.

Our key thematic areas of intervention focus on: Health and Nutrition, Water Sanitation; Food security Agriculture, Resilience, Livelihood, Education and Learning; Socio-Economic Development.

About the position

WeWorld-GVC is a part of a consortium that has been awarded a 4 years’ grant by the European Union on building community resilience in Isiolo County.

In this project WeWorld-GVC main areas of focus will be: Improved nutrition, food security and food production; Enhancing food crop production; Promoting sustainable water supply; Elimination of defecation in the open through promoting Community Led Total Sanitation methodology; Promoting food security and improve nutrition indicators through a multisectoral approach.

Job Purpose:

The post holder will be in charge of the Agriculture component of We World-GVC led part of the project Resilience for Sustainable Livelihoods and the implementation of related activities.

(S)he will be responsible for the correct and successful implementation of the related activities, monitoring the indicators as per what the project proposal states, in close collaboration with the Health and Nutrition officer, Wash officer, Education and Child protection officer, and ultimately the Project Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities

The AFSL Project officer will:

  • Oversee the implementation of the Agriculture, Food Security/Livelihood components of the programmes ensuring timeliness and delivery according to the activity plan and results frameworks.

  • Ensure the programme adheres to agreed-upon agriculture, food security and livelihoods approaches, to best practices and to all internal policies and procedures.

  • Ensure participation of the community in the implementation of programme through appropriate mechanisms.

  • Ensure that the programme addresses the needs of the targeted communities for effective implementation.

  • Build the capacity of the community and members of the team assigned to the project.

  • Participate in the development of new proposal by supporting the identification of
    partners, sectors, activities, etc in coordinatio with the Project Coordinator.

  • Explore the scope for further possible partnerships between the WeWorld and various governmental and non-governmental organisations for effective implementation and enhanced sustainability of the programmes’ activities and outcomes;

  • Represent WeWorld at appropriate meetings (agriculture and food security cluster, donors, etc.) and report back to the Project Coordinator;

  • Provide regular report and updates to the Project Coordinator regarding on project activities from the operation sub-Counties;

  • Develop appropriate targeting criteria and mechanisms to ensure the needs of identified vulnerable groups are met esuring correct beneficiary selection procedure and criteria are followed

  • Provide regular progress report to the Programme coordinator as per the requirement;

  • Prepare monthly quarterly and annual activity plans, action plans for monitoring, review and quarterly and annual project reports and plans.

  • Organize meetings to sensitize communities about the purpose and modalities of the food security and livelihoods project.

  • Coordinate with other technical departments (nutrition, water and sanitation, education, child protection) and support departments

  • Support in development and negotiation of MoUs at the county and regional levels where necessary.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    **Mandatory Qualifications***:*

  • University degree in Agriculture, economic farming, food security or related discipline.

  • At-least three experience in food security/livelihood or cliamate change programmes in development or humanitarian context.

  • Experience with IGA, economic empowerment programming in ASAL settings.

  • Demonstrably strong understanding of Monitoring and Evaluation processes and tools. Excellent communication skills in English both written and verbal

  • Strong understanding of gender, cultural Sensitive ethics and how to mainstream and integrate these into programming.

  • Proven ability in report writing, research and documentation and experience in proposal writing.

  • Ability to work in team is of outmost importance

    Desired skills and experiences:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (Agriculture, food security, livelihood related issues);

  • Previous experience working in Kenya and/or in ASAL areas;

  • Prior experience working and managing culturally-diverse teams to achieve project outcomes

  • Previous relevant project management experience in an international NGO or similar organization.

  • Good technical knowledge of policy and practice in the field of livelihoods, crop and livestock production as well as other cross cutting issues, and climate smart agriculture

  • Good communication, presentation, training and report writing skills.

  • Willingness to work in isolated rural areas with basic living conditions, and work in difficult field conditions.

  • Previous experience in management of EU funded projects is a STRONG asset.
