The purpose of the placement is to support implementation of Volunteering for Development project in VSO’s programming scope in Kenya

Responsibilities

  • Support in the development of V4D project work plans, implementation of the project activities, preparation of narrative and financial reports.
  • Engage with project’s primary actors including communicating VSO’s policies, equipping them with core approaches (Social inclusion, Social accountability and Resilience) and principles of People First Framework
  • Maintain and update all project records and files, and ensure safety of assets
  • Represent VSO in various forums and work in collaboration with VSO’s subscribed networks to influence effective development and implementation in Education space.
  • Demonstrable support to hosting partners-20% of the time
  • Any other duties assigned to the volunteer by line manager or supervisor


    Skills, qualifications and experience

  • A diploma/degree in Education/social sciences with interest in engaging on Education and Equity related policies
  • Knowledge or experience in project cycle management is an added advantage
  • Ability employ various techniques in facilitating trainings among children and adults
  • Ability to travel to other counties to deliver project activities
  • Ability to work as part of a team in an organized and flexible approach
  • Good communication and ICT skills and ability to manage organization resources
  • A valid Kenyan certificate of good conduct is required for this placement.
  • We encourage participants from the following counties:- Bungoma, Kwale and Nyandarua

    Allowance

  • As a VSO volunteer, you will be sharing your skills with local communities on a full time basis. VSO will cover your travel, vaccinations, accommodation, and medical insurance costs, along with a local living allowance which will be paid in local currency.

    This allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home. You will also receive some financial support to contribute to your on-going expenses at home.

    Accommodation

    VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.
