VSF Suisse Fundraising Consultant Jobs in Ethiopia

VSF Suisse Fundraising Consultant Jobs in Ethiopia

Relevant Background

The One Health for Humans, Environment, Animals and Livelihoods (OH4HEAL) project will be implemented in selected pastoral areas of Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya that share common characteristics and have solid cross-border dynamics.

Livelihoods in each of these pastoral communities depend on close links between people, animals, and rangelands and hence the health of each.

The project's theory of change is that working together, human, animal and rangeland 'health' specialists can improve service delivery, reduce costs, and strengthen livelihoods.

The OH4HEAL project is implemented by a consortium of organisations led by Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Suisse {VSF-Suisse}. It includes Amref Health Africa - Comitato Collaborazione Medica Onlus {Amref-CCM} and International Livestock Research Institute {ILRI}.

The project’s approach is context-specific, community-led, evidence-based, and transdisciplinary, in which communities, local authorities, and local actors, including both public and private service providers, work together with the consortium members to reshape ‘health’ service delivery through One Health Units (OHUs).

Local Multi-Stakeholder Innovation Platforms support learning and relationship building. Learning between platforms is supported by a Regional Community of Practice (CoP).

The OH4HEAL project was launched in 2019 through an 18-month Inception Phase that supported learning and relationship building with communities and local authorities.

The OH4HEAL project is in Phase 1 2021-2024, operationalising One Health Units to generate evidence on the value added from the One Health approach in pastoral areas. The project is co-funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation.

Theory of change

The OH4HEAL project seeks to reshape the delivery of 'health' services in pastoral areas of the Horn of Africa to improve service delivery, reduce costs and strengthen livelihoods.

Central to the service delivery approach is One Health Units {OHUs} that bring together 'health' specialists at the community level and, in this way, strengthen and improve availability, accessibility, affordability, adequacy, and acceptability amongst pastoral communities.

For example, appropriate staffed and resourced OHUs can provide preventive and curative health services to humans and animals and address environmental health issues.

Similarly, OHUs offer a valuable capacity to identify and report health and ecological risks that can help support early action and response.

Lessons, impacts, and outcomes learned through the work of OHUs will be shared in the project's Regional Community of Practice and will help inform the consortium's approach to the development and delivery of the One Health (OH) approach in the pastoral areas of the Horn of Africa.
