Role overview

Grants Development:

. Ensure that VSOU has a robust and updated grants management system.
. Work closely with programmes staff to prepare fully costed budgets in new grants in accordance with donor guidelines and in VSO budget format (Proposal Total Cost - PTC) while applying VSO finance and costing policies.
. Work in close collaboration with Finance Manager to ensure new budgets align with country budget plans

Grants Implementation:

. Ensure all new projects have appropriate budget codes with robust grants documentation in both soft and hard copy in line with VSO grants management system.
. Ensure all new grants have Grants Compliance System that allows to monitor and adhere to donor requirements in close coordination with programmes team.
. Ensure that every project-cycle has a grants compliance monitoring approach easily understood by the users.
Financial management:
. Ensure that relevant internal controls as per the donor requirements and VSO finance manual, are adhered to.
. Support Finance manager in training the other finance and programme staff on SUN 5 reporting technology and donor regulations.
. Provide support to Finance manager during all finance audits.

People management:

. Technically manage all sub-grants officers for solid sub-grants budget implementation and delivery of partner accountabilities and data into the reporting system to ensure completeness and accuracy in finance reporting, in close coordination with the programmes team.

Skills, qualifications and experience

  • A Qualified Accountant with a related degree with good technical accounting skills. At least 4 years' experience of financial planning and sub grant accounting, with a good background in reporting and analysis.

    Voluntary Service Overseas Clinical Facilitator & Nurse Tutor Vacancies in Uganda

  • To support the midwives and nurses in the clinical facilitation of students nurses, clinical officers and interns.
  • Build the capacity of health workers in the hospital to provide bed-side teaching and implement competency based learning.
  • In consultation with health workers (HW) in the hospital, appoint focal persons for the clinical facilitation of student HWs
  • Consult with stakeholders on content of training provided
  • Implement the competency based model of clinical facilitation as recommended by teaching institutions
  • Build capacity in HW to roll out initiatives such as bed-side teaching and joined ward rounds
    Prepare and deliver lectures to student HWs
  • Coordinate with schools on the implementation and coordination of clinical facilitation
  • Contribute to the development of IEC materials where needed
  • Support the implementation of tutor programmes, providing mentorship training to tutors
  • Facilitate exchange visits to support the mentorship programme
  • Conduct a rapid baseline and end assessment to assess impact of volunteer placement
