Objective of this Position: To provide support for clinical research activities for an observational cohort study of mothers and infants in Nairobi, Kenya.

Position Details

Work schedule:

  • Full time (40 hours per week), Monday through Friday.

    Location:

  • Mathare North Health Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

    Contract Duration:

  • One year with opportunity for extension.

    Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Assist study staff with the preparation and storage of participant samples.
  • Communicate with transport drivers and/or the clinical assistant to receive participant samples that were collected at home and to send processed samples to the main laboratory.
  • Ensure samples are stored at the correct temperature after processing and are sent to the main laboratory for long-term storage.
  • Assist the Mathare North Health Centre laboratory with any other sample processing or testing activities as needed.
  • Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of study participants and their data.
  • Attend meetings with the clinic manager and/or study coordinator to discuss research activities.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Desired Qualifications

    Education and Experience

  • BSC Medical Lab, BSC Medical Microbiology, BSC bio Medical Sciences or related field.
  • 2 years’ experience working in a laboratory.
  • 2 years’ experience processing biological specimens for laboratory testing and/or storage, as well
    as managing sample transfer.
  • At least 1 years’ recent experience in phlebotomy related procedures.

    Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and accomplish tasks related to sample processing, storage, and transfer.
  • Strong organizational and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team
  • Attention to detail and good work ethic.
  • Respectful, punctual, hardworking, and conscientious.
  • Responsive to communication with supervisors and team members.
