Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Strategy & Reliability
Determine asset criticality and set maintenance approach (scheduled, condition‑based, corrective).
Transition department from reactive repair to planned maintenance.
Analyse recurring failures to root cause and implement lasting corrections.
Set reliability targets by asset class and track performance.
Planning & Work Management
Maintain rolling preventive maintenance programme across trades.
Operate a single work‑order system from request to close‑out.
Batch work by area, trade and shutdown window.
Reserve capacity for breakdown response while keeping programme on schedule.
Asset Management & Lifecycle
Build and maintain complete asset register in ERPNext.
Weigh repair vs. replacement based on cost, downtime and residual value.
Work with Finance on depreciation, book value and disposal.
Identify assets nearing end of life and prepare capital replacement analysis.
Budget, Cost & Procurement
Own and control maintenance budget across labour, spares, consumables and contractors.
Manage total cost of ownership, including downtime costs.
Assess OEM items on quality, price, lead time and warranty.
Set spares and critical‑stock policy against lead times and criticality.
Leadership & Accountability
Establish departmental structure with clear reporting lines.
Delegate authority for work approval, equipment release and expenditure.
Maintain communication with production and support functions.
Assign ownership of assets, work orders and incident investigations.
Recruit, train and review staff performance.
Facilities, Safety & Reporting
Establish workshops, control tools and protective equipment.
Own safety within maintenance operations, including permit‑to‑work and lock‑out discipline.
Maintain statutory inspection and certification for regulated plant.
Report monthly on availability, downtime, schedule completion and cost.
Represent maintenance in operations forums and advise management on risk.
Qualifications & Requirements
Degree in Engineering from a recognised university (Kenyan certification required).
Registration with Engineers
Board of Kenya as Professional or Graduate Engineer desirable.
Maintenance/reliability certification (CMRP, RCM, TPM), project management or safety qualification advantageous.
Minimum 8 years’ post‑qualification experience in engineering and maintenance.
At least 4 years leading a multi‑trade department of 20+ staff.
Experience in continuous‑run sites where breakdowns cause lost production.
Agro‑industrial, aquaculture, agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, food processing or agro‑processing background.
Proven preventive maintenance programme delivery with measurable downtime reduction.
Direct accountability for maintenance budget and supplier negotiations.
Kenyan operating experience or ability to work within Kenyan regulatory and labour conditions.

Engineering Knowledge
Power generation and electrical distribution.
Pumping and water systems.
Refrigeration and cold chain.
Mechanical plant and fleet.
Welding, fabrication and structural repair.
Marine assets management.
Systems & Organisational Skills
ERPNext or comparable ERP/CMMS.
Project planning and resourcing.
Measurement and reporting of availability, repair time and cost.
Budgeting, lifecycle costing and capital case preparation.
Personal Competencies
