Victory Farms Broodstock Management Assistant Manager Jobs in Kenya
Key Responsibilities
Assist in managing the daily operations of the Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS), with a focus on hatching, incubation and fry production.
Oversee and monitor the egg incubation process to ensure optimal water quality, temperature and environmental conditions for successful hatching.
Manage fry production, ensuring fry are properly maintained, monitored and fed throughout their early growth stages.
Implement and maintain fish health and biosecurity protocols, including disease prevention, treatment and monitoring of water quality parameters.
Work with the management team to develop and execute hatchery and production schedules to ensure efficient production cycles.
Monitor fry growth and development, adjusting environmental conditions such as water flow rates and oxygen levels as necessary.
Supervise hatchery technicians and support staff, providing training, guidance and ensuring compliance with safety and operational procedures.
Maintain records on egg hatch rates, fry health, water quality, treatments and interventions, and provide regular reports to management.
Conduct routine inspections of hatchery equipment and infrastructure, identifying issues and ensuring timely maintenance.
Collaborate with management on research and development initiatives aimed at improving hatchery processes, egg survival rates and fry quality.
Assist in the procurement and management of supplies and materials required for hatchery operations.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and adopt best practices for sustainable aquaculture production.
Assess and score team performance and complete departmental and individual performance appraisals.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Animal Production or a related field.
Experience
Minimum two (2) years of experience in tilapia
farming, specifically within RAS systems, incubation or fry production operations.
Skills and Requirements
Good command of spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate effectively with teams and management.
Willingness and ability to work night shifts as required by hatchery operations.
Physical fitness and ability to walk for extended periods and work in wet environments around tanks, ponds and water systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Basic data analysis, reporting and data visualization skills.
Knowledge of hatchery operations, fish health management, biosecurity and water quality monitoring.
Strong leadership, supervision and team management skills.
Good record-keeping, reporting and organizational abilities.
