Introduction

The U.S. Mission in Nairobi is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Public Engagement Assistant(American Spaces) will be available immediately.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in a multinational educational or cultural work environment is required, with education, communication, marketing and public outreach duties as significant parts of the job is required.

    Job Knowledge:
  • Must have a good working knowledge of Kenya’s political, social and educational structure and institutions and key personalities.
  • Must have a working knowledge of U. S. society and culture.

    Education Requirements:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Development Studies, Information Science, Communications, Marketing or Management is required.
  • Level IV (Fluent) speaking/reading/writing of English is required. (This may be tested).
  • Level III (Good Working Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing of Kiswahili is required

    Skills and Abilities:
  • Must have interpersonal skills, customer service skills and technical skills.
  • Must be able to engage with contacts of all levels, from high school students to Ministers and other high-level government officials in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Must be able to convey complex ideas in simple, comprehensible language for all levels of interlocutors and audiences.
  • Must be able to solve complex problems, particularly as they relate to program logistics and finances.
  • Must have numerical skills to track procurement expenditures and inventory of American Spaces supplies.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office Suites, Internet; and other proprietary software such as
    EOS.Web, Adobe Flash Player, iTunes, Skype, ooVoo, and Zoom, G-Suite.

    Job Specification
  • Under the supervision of the American Center Director, the incumbent will manage public diplomacy outreach programs at the Embassy’s flagship American Space and provide support for the other American Spaces in Kenya.
  • In his/her work with American Spaces, the incumbent will develop and execute innovative outreach and training activities in support of the Mission’s Interagency Country Strategy (ICS) goals.
  • The incumbent will manage social media properties for the American Spaces, develop marketing materials, and grow the audience base.
  • The incumbent manages the intern program and serves as Acting Director when needed.
