Duties

The Facilities Maintenance Assistant serves as the Facility Manager's duty and is responsible for the support of the facility management program at the U.S. Mission in Lusaka, Zambia. The incumbent is responsible for overall ICASS customer service as well providing supervision and quality assurance for all non-residential building operations.

Serves as after-hours facility management emergency duty officer. Backs up oversight of residential maintenance as required. Directly supervised by the Facility Manager (FM).

Incumbent is responsible for janitorial and gardening services at non-residential locations including the Embassy compound, CDC compound, and offsite warehouse. Incumbent provides full direct supervision of ten janitors and provides daily work guidance to the gardening foremen and gardening staff.

Acts as Contracting Officers Representative (COR) for gym maintenance service contract for Embassy compound and CDC compound gyms. Ensures that the gyms are maintained in a good, clean condition and that equipment is operating as designed.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Experience:

  • Minimum two years' experience in maintenance and building management is required.

    Job Knowledge:

  • Must have a well-developed knowledge of the US Mission to Zambia, specifically the functions and roles of each USG Agency, its personnel and staff.

  • Must be able to interpret, explain, and equitably apply USG guidelines and regulations to USG Local Contractors.

  • Knowledge of the physical infrastructure, grounds, utilities, and physical security of all USG properties in Lusaka is required.

    Education Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary School or Local Mandatory Schooling and received high school diploma.

    Language:

  • Fluent Speaking/Reading/Writing in English is required.

    Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have well developed written and oral communication skills; must be an active and objective listener.

  • Must be able to use computers and use, create and navigate a variety of programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook.

  • Must be able to effectively use and navigate the Internet.

  • Must have strong, proactive, and customer-focused interpersonal skills. Driver's license is required.

  • Basic typing skills required.

  • Basic numerical skills required. Will required to us GMMS and TREES Software.
