Summary

The U.S. Mission in Uganda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Bodyguard.

The work schedule for this position is:

  • Full Time, 40 hours per week

    Start Date:

    Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time following receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/ certifications or their candidacy may end.

    Supervisory Position: No

    Duties

  • The incumbent is responsible to provide work guidance and day to day management of the bodyguards assigned to him or her during a protection detail or shift.

  • The incumbent is a specialist trained in close physical protection operations.

  • The duties include bodyguard protection of Embassy staff and visiting dignitaries, participate in and provide security training, and maintains timesheets.

  • Incumbent reports directly to the Bodyguard Officer in Charge.

    Qualifications and Evaluations

    Education:

  • Completion of secondary school (both O’ and A’ levels) is required.

    Requirements

    Experience

  • A minimum of two (2) years of private sector, government, police, or military experience in one or more of the following categories: bodyguard, armed escort, law enforcement officer, security officer, combat arms or infantry soldier.

    Job Knowledge

  • A strong knowledge in physical protection, standard security practices and procedures

  • Good working knowledge of standard security equipment and weapons

  • Thorough knowledge of host-country operational environment, language, law and security entities, and historic criminal and terrorist threats and operational tendencies.

    Evaluations: (This May be Tested)

    Language:

  • Level III English ability (good working knowledge of written, spoken and reading)

  • Level III ability (good working knowledge of written, spoken and reading) in any three of the following languages is required; Luganda, Lusoga, Kiswahili, Lunyankole, Acholi, Lugisu, Lunyoro, Lukiga, and Alur/Acholi is required.

    Skills and Abilities

  • Must have keen analytical abilities, originality of ideas, creative solutions, and the exercise of sound, independent judgment.

  • Must be able to make independent judgments on threats made to protected individuals.

  • Must be able to rapidly assimilate and assess real-time threat information and issue orders for the immediate conduct of defensive operations.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to learn defensive driving.

  • Must be able and willing to use firearms safety and proficiently.

    Qualifications

  • All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.

    Important:

    Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification.

    A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant.

    The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.

    Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.

    This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
