Summary:

The U.S Mission in Kigali is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Truck Driver.

  • The work schedule for this position is Full Time (40 hours per week)

    Duties

  • The Truck Driver serves as a Heavy Goods-Driver.
  • The position holder may also serve as driver of passenger and utility vehicles in town and on country trips, and on call as Duty Driver on a rotating basis with other drivers.
  • This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a U.S. Government-owned large cargo vehicles or other vehicles.
  • The Truck Driver is also responsible for safe handling, transporting and storage of both expendable and non-expendable items.
  • The position holder is on call as duty delivery driver on a rotating basis with other drivers.
  • The Truck Driver operates and uses water transfer pumps, water hose, valves, and related equipment on the water truck.

    Qualifications and Evaluations

    Requirements:

    Experience:

  • At least three years of professional driving experience is required. At least three years experience operating tanker trucks transporting liquids/Commodities is also required.

    Education Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school is required.

  • A valid Rwandan driver’s license is required with category C.

    Evaluations:

    Language:

  • Limited knowledge (Level II) of English and good working knowledge (Level III) of Kinyarwanda is required. (This may be tested).


    Skills and Abilities:

  • Skill test might be administered.

    Agency Benefits:

    The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

    Hiring Preference Selection Process:

    Important:

    Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), Letter from Veterans’ Affairs which indicates the present existence of a service-connected disability dated within the past six months, equivalent documentation, or certification.

    A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant.

    The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.


    ** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
