Duties

  • The incumbent of this position has complete responsibility for arranging and facilitating the entry and exit of U.S. Government official personnel, supplies and other goods or items needed for their convenience through designated Malawi Ports and borders.

  • Also arranges for customs clearances of U.S. Government equipment and supplies. Shipment Assistant FSN-905-8; arranges and facilitates the incoming and outgoing shipments and customs clearances of the household and personal effects, privately owned vehicles (POV) and other property of U.S. Citizen personnel and U.S. Government equipment and supplies.

    Qualifications and Evaluations

    Prior Work Experience:

  • Five years experience in shipping and customs clearance, at least two years of which should have been performed at the supervisory level, basic computer knowledge is required; and a work history that demonstrates a pattern of ever-increasing responsibility is preferred.

    Skills and Abilities:

  • In addition to the basic computer skills mentioned above, the successful applicant must demonstrate supervisory skills such as the ability to train and motivate subordinates; administrative skills such as staff research and staff writing; and Interpersonal skills such as the ability to deal tactfully but effectively with colleagues, vendors, and Malawi Government officials.

    Education Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary school is mandatory and some college-level work and formal computer training is desired.

    Evaluations:

  • Language: Level III (Good working knowledge) written and spoken
    English and Chichewa language skills are required.

    Knowledge:

  • Initially, the successful applicant must demonstrate a general knowledge of basic shipping and customs terminology and practices; a knowledge of basic supervisory skills and techniques; and basic familiarity with computer operations.

  • At the end of the probationary period, the applicant must demonstrate thorough knowledge of all applicable procedures and regulations related to Department of State shipping as well as comprehensive knowledge of shipping and customs requirements and operations here in.

    Qualifications:

  • All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
