U.S. Embassy in Ghana Fraud Investigator Jobs
Duties Incumbent is the supervisory fraud investigator who conducts the most complex and sensitive investigations related to all types of citizenship, passport and visa fraud and includes investigations conducted for other posts and other U.S. federal agencies.
Incumbent serves as advisor and assistant to the Fraud Prevention Manager (FPM) on matters relating to fraud and the development of fraud prevention programs.
Incumbent may be required to travel throughout Accra on field investigations. The incumbent oversees the day-to-day management of three subordinate investigators, directs and approves their investigations, schedules work assignments and leave, and acts as the unit historian maintaining adequate files and records.
Qualifications and Evaluations
At least five (5) years experience in consular or investigative work; work involving the application of complex regulations; or work involving the Ghanaian legal and civil registry systems, with a minimum of six month's experience as a supervisor, team leader, or similar capacity is required.
Must be proficient in MS Windows (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams). Must have strong knowledge of Ghanaian civil and customary laws relating to marriage, divorce and adoption and the Ghanaian penal code.
Must have strong knowledge of Ghanaian immigration law, Ghana's social, religious, economic and political conditions, and fraud trends in Ghana and nearby countries.
Must be familiar with Ghanaian offices that can validate documents (the offices of births and deaths, registrars, police departments, schools, churches, hospitals, and airlines).
Must have strong knowledge of investigative techniques, human behavior under stressful situations, and communicating with unwilling or uncooperative subjects.
Must be able to conduct investigations and prepare resulting reports of investigations. Must develop expertise in U.S. immigration laws and regulations.
Mandatory: College degree in a relevant field such as business, law, psychology, sociology, international relations, or economics is required
Language: Mandatory: Level IV English (speaking reading, and writing (fluent)). The incumbent must
be at ease discussing complicated cases with native English speakers, including U.S. supervisors and key contacts.
Must be able to communicate effectively with members of the public in at least two local languages (Twi, Ga, Ewe, or Fanti) at Level III (good working knowledge).
Skills and Abilities:
Must have excellent interviewing, analytical, and writing skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills (in English).
Must have keen observation and listening skills to capture interview details that may be implied. Must be able to consider and analyze a variety of details quickly, comprehend their individual and collective significance, and integrate them into a conclusion.
Must be able to work independently on assigned tasks that are time-sensitive. Strong organizational skills and that ability to prioritize tasks in the face of competing responsibilities are instructions are key attributes.
Must possess strong comprehension skills and exhibit resourcefulness, creativity, objectivity, and critical thinking skills.
Must be disciplined about work procedures and meet recurring and special deadlines with minimal supervision. Language and skills proficiencies may be tested.
