Duties

The Job Holder (JH) processes informative correspondence and assists in the planning, development, and implementation of strategic public messaging to over 50,000 consular stakeholders per annum.

JH drafts, clears, and transmits responses to case-specific inquiries from U.S. congressional offices, diplomatic missions, high-level internal and external contacts of the embassy, Ghanaian government agencies, consular applicants, lawyers, authorized representatives, and various other inquirers.

JH researches and analyzes assigned cases and prepares reports for senior Consular Management. JH provides correspondence, outreach, public information support, and records management assistance to the entire Consular Section as the sole LE Staff employee of the consular Customer Service Unit.

Advanced technical understanding of U.S. immigration law and procedures, general knowledge of travel industry, and social media expertise must be applied while developing communications products for the Consular Section.

The position will be back-up Consular Section sub-cashiers and will be responsible for cash collections in U.S. dollars and local currency up to $10,000.00 in the absence of the Consular Section’s primary sub-cashier.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Experience:

  • At least two (2) years of work experience in a field or position requiring writing and research skills, report preparation, customer service, website moderation and content management, or public/media relations is required.

    Job Knowledge:

  • Customer relations, website management and or social media engagement and public relations. Position requires knowledge of Ghanaian laws, including basic knowledge of local civil and criminal judicial procedures, and knowledge of basic local legal structure and requirements.

    Education Requirements:

  • Completion
    of at least two (2) years of university studies is required.

    Evaluations:

    Language:

  • Mandatory: Fluency in English; written/spoken, including the ability to translate (This may be tested).


    Skills and Abilities:

  • Job Holder must have ability to evaluate and process a high volume of written and electronic information with a degree of independence and be able to research and draft appropriate responses in a timely manner.

  • Job Holder must have the skills to operate Microsoft suite applications and must possess a working knowledge of office support functions, as well as strong interpersonal skills.

  • Job Holder must have strong organizational and time management skills to efficiently process incoming/outgoing correspondence and handle various public information/outreach programs within the bounds of consular and Department of State regulations.

  • Job Holder must be flexible to adjust to frequently changing internal procedures, and expectations of embassy Executive Office as conveyed by the Consul General and, or Consul who manages the consular Customer Service Unit.
