Duties

  • The Fraud Investigator assists in the timely processing of all requests for FPU support for case processing at post.

  • Receives and coordinates requests for investigations throughout Ethiopia into claims of relationship, identity, personal history, marital status, orphan status, and other visa and passport applications from adjudicators, other US Embassies, USCIS and other sources;

  • Prioritizes cases that require field investigations;

  • Ensures timely responses to requests for investigations; establishes and maintains exemplar books of both bona fide and fraudulent documents;

  • Maintains good working relationships with government and private offices throughout the country; and provides internal training on fraud trends and techniques for new arrival officer and LE Staff.

  • Coordinates DNA sample collection at post including the scheduling of applicants for sample collection, the coordinating of contractors to conduct sample collection, the coordinating of sample delivery to courier services by the American witness, and other duties as needed.

  • The incumbent reports directly to Fraud Prevention Supervisor.

  • Incumbent serves as an incidental operator of official vehicles and meets all requirements outlined in 14 FAM 433.

    Qualifications and Evaluations

    Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 (three) years of progressively responsible professional-level experience in investigative work, such as criminal or private investigations, or with police or government organizations is required.

    Education:

  • Two (2) years of general college or university study is required.

    Note: Please upload all copies of your Education under "University Degree"

    Language:

  • Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Amharic is required.

  • Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. (This may be tested)

    Skills and Abilities

  • A valid Ethiopian grade II driver's license is required. (Driving may be tested). Must attach the driver's license under "Driver's license"

  • Ability to maintain extensive contacts at all levels within the host country law enforcement and security agencies

  • Ability to conduct sensitive investigations to include handling evidence with utmost discretion

  • Ability to train and supervise the work of others

  • Ability to draft correspondence and written reports in English

  • Computer software programs to include Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
