  • The US Mission in Accra is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Housing Assistant.
  • The schedule for this position is Full time 40 hours per week.


  • Incumbent assists the General Services Officer in the location of suitable short-term lease residential properties for Mission employees. This is a non-supervisory position and supervised by the Housing Supervisor – FSN-09.

  • Co-ordinates Landlord repairs as requested by Facilities Maintenance Manager (FMM) during make ready renewal of leases and general routine maintenance schedules, and schedule with FSO's/occupants on when works will be done.

  • Keeps housing list, housing view spread sheet and RPA systems up to date and update utilities log with current occupant information. Keeps Housing Board Records. Maintains office files to incorporate all correspondences relating to leases, maintenance issues and landlord responsibilities. Prepares upcoming vacant houses list and other materials for Housing Board Meetings. Assists with in any other areas of GSO as needed.

  • Notifies landlord of lease renewal in advance and prepare the lease document for signing and assist the GSO in lease/rental negotiations. Prepares Landlord Letter to accompany rent check and co-ordinates rent payments and deductions with FMM and Financial Management Officer (FMO).

  • Works with landlords, realty agents, and other entities to identify properties for the housing pool. Screens properties to select those that meet Mission housing requirements. Arranges for potential properties to be reviewed by the GSO, RSO, and FMM for approval. Arranges lease negotiations meetings between the landlord and Contracting Officer. Coordinate with FMM, POSHO, RSO and Warehouse to make sure they work accordingly during commissioning, make ready and decommissioning of a house.

  • Sort and arrange all housing residential keys and make copies during make readies and when needed and remove/replace
    key cylinders when necessary.


  • A minimum of 3 years experience with renting residential properties is required.


  • Knowledge of local housing markets, residential areas, role and real estate agents. Must know his/her way around the city. Should be able to provide pertinent advice on properties, since bad advice could mean the loss of a potentially good property. Knowledgeable in good customer service, lease/rental management, wood and joinery works, floor plan measurements and sketches.

    Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work under little or no supervision. Ability to display initiative and resourcefulness in the performance of duties. Ability to perform tasks under pressure. Must have a valid driver's license Class B for a minimum of 5 years. Should be skilled in Microsoft Office applications, the use of e-mail and downloads from the computer. Ability to understand, explain and interpret the USG model lease. Must have good persuasion and negotiation skills.

    Education Requirements:

  • Completion of High School diploma (Secondary school) is required.
