    Activity Overview:

  • The purpose of the USAID/Malawi MOMENTUM Activity is to support the Government of Malawi’s (GOM’s) efforts to reduce maternal, newborn, and child mortality through improved access and quality of health service delivery with particular focus on maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH); family planning/reproductive health (FP/RH); nutrition; water sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); and malaria prevention and treatment.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

  • URC is seeking Technical Advisors for MNCH, FP/RH, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Nutrition, and Malaria in Pregnancy to support the Activity’s technical implementation and capacity building efforts. They will be responsible for developing, implementing, and scaling up of innovative and best practices within their technical area. They will also manage crucial relationships with stakeholders and local implementers. Specific responsibilities
    include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide senior technical and programmatic expertise and leadership to the planning, implementing, and monitoring of activities

  • Apply cutting-edge methods to translate local and international best practices into improved management of MNCH, FP, WASH, and/or nutrition services.

  • Ensure that activities are performed in an effective and timely way, to a high professional standard, and in line with USAID and URC policies and procedures

  • Maintain relationships with USAID Malawi, Ministry of Health, national and international partners, local organizations, and other key stakeholders through frequent consultations

  • Work closely with other project staff to develop learning and knowledge products that communicate project findings and lessons learned

    Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health, international development, or relevant field.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with progressively responsible roles managing complex projects of similar scope within MNCH, FP/RH, WASH, or nutrition services.

  • Strong expertise implementing health programs in resource-constrained settings.

  • Demonstrated capacity building experience in areas of technical expertise.

  • Demonstrated experience working in partnership with host governments, international donors, and implementing partners.

  • Ability to work independently and with team members and partners at all levels.

  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically.

  • Excellent communication skills in English and strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.

    Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience with USAID-funded activities.

  • For MNCH applicants – a medical degree with clinical experience in obstetrics, pediatrics, nursing, or other fields related to MNCH and demonstrated experience in capacity building of facility and community-based service providers.

  • For WASH applicants – a master’s degree related to WASH and experience in WASH policy, financing, and/or social and behavior change.

  • For nutrition applicants – experience carrying out growth promotion at the community level and experience integrating nutrition into other services.
