In the US, we focus on improving communication related to issues like substance abuse, with a focus on reaching underserved populations.

This anticipated multi-year CDC-funded Enhancing Strategic Information Capacity for HIV/AIDS Programs in Kenya through Monitoring and Evaluation, Surveillance and Epidemiology, and Health Information Systems (HIS) under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) will support activities that enhance the development, implementation, and capacity building needed to build and sustain strategic information activities in three interdependent disciplines: health information systems, surveillance & epidemiology, and monitoring & evaluation while partnering with the Government of Kenya.

Specific responsibilities:

URC is currently seeking a qualified Senior Technical Advisor to provide technical and programmatic direction for the development and implementation of activities, assessments, and big data analyses for this activity.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in identifying strategic priorities and opportunities for supported activities along with implementation of the annual work plan
  • Engage with CDC, other international donors, research institutions and other stakeholders to develop implementation research and dissemination partnerships
  • Manage and provide technical support to implementation science evidence generation and evidence liberation (e.g. use of existing data sets, review of literature) activities
  • Conduct technical monitoring of CDC deliverables and annual or semi-annual thematic reviews
  • Support quantitative and qualitative research, synthesis, dissemination and use of new knowledge
  • Support the development of timely research reports and assist in the dissemination of results to diverse audiences in order, to build knowledge for the project
  • Organize and support communication with Communities of Practice (COPs)
  • Develop products for translating research findings for
    implementation purposes for both peer reviewed journals, policy briefs, tools and other final products as appropriate.


    Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in in public health or related discipline with experience in interdisciplinary health services, operations, and/or implementation research; PhD preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in health, involving a range of research activities and products.
  • Qualitative and quantitative research experience required.
  • CDC experience preferable.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in HIV surveillance and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis.
  • Computer literacy is required: Strong Excel skills a must; Experience using Microsoft Access, Stata, SPSS or other data analysis software and statistical packages highly desired
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English, including evidence of quality report writing and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines with quality products.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
