    Activity Overview:

  • The purpose of the USAID/Malawi MOMENTUM Activity is to support the Government of Malawi’s (GOM’s) efforts to reduce maternal, newborn, and child mortality through improved access and quality of health service delivery with particular focus on maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH); family planning/reproductive health (FP/RH); nutrition; water sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); and malaria prevention and treatment.

  • Component One of this activity will focus work at the district and facility levels in Chikwawa, Dowa, Lilongwe, Machinga, Mulange, Mangochi and Zomba districts.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

  • URC is currently seeking a Chief of Party who will provide the overall strategic direction, technical oversight, lead program delivery, and provide overall managerial directions for program staff and activities. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the
    following:

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership, consortium management, and administration of the program in alignment with the program’s key objectives and expected outcomes.

  • Monitor project performance to achieve project goals and objectives.

  • Support timely submission of project reports according to agreed deadlines, respond promptly to other ad hoc informational requests by USAID, and report regularly to the USAID Mission to ensure transparency and awareness of program development and implementation, remaining cognizant of issues or challenges as they arise.

  • Serve as the primary liaison from URC to USAID/Malawi, partners, and other stakeholders.

  • Serve as a spokesperson and advocate, represent the project to USG, donors, relevant stakeholders, cooperating agencies, and others.

  • Ensure compliance with USAID/USG rules and organizations, and URC policies.

  • Recruit and supervise staff to meet evolving project demands, including management of a roster for technical experts with national and international expertise to contribute to the program as required.

    Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in public health, tropical medicine, epidemiology, health management, or related field; MD or PhD preferred;

  • Minimum of eight years of progressively increasing responsibility in a leadership/ management role (such as Country Director, COP, DCOP, or Project or Technical Director) for large, complex health projects in developing countries, with at least 5 years of experience working on health programs in Malawi; healthcare financing; clinical quality; and/or health systems strengthening programs;

  • Demonstrated success in leading organizations and people with diverse backgrounds and skills sets to achieve results;

  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective working relations with senior Government personnel, international organizations, NGO partners, host country governments, and U.S. Government Agencies; and

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and English oral and written communication skills.

    Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Considerable experience with USAID-funded health programs.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership in family health interventions.
