The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance for relief, emergency school feeding, nutrition and food assistance for assets creation through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Programme, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide technical guidance to ensure that the standard Operational Information Management (OIM) and Performance Reports (PR) are followed to driver the quality, consistency and standardization of information management and performance reporting across WFP;
  • Compile and analyses field level data and information as well as external political and humanitarian analysis pertaining to WFP current or future responses, and incorporating the reports to management and donors;
  • Produce regular internal and external information products on WFP activities in Somalia, and review and edit programme policy documents, including project documents, donor proposals and reports;
  • Collate relevant information and data from media and local internal and external sources to facilitate and maximize the exchange of information and data flow between functional area networks in WFP, to provide operational awareness and understanding of events that may be humanitarian and/or operational impact;
  • Coordinate and lead the preparation of quarterly and annual Standard Project Reports (SPRs) for the annual performance reporting exercise in collaboration with the country office Programme, Monitoring and Evaluation,
  • Logistics and Resources Management functions ensuring coherence and quality of performance information. Contribute to identifying Corporate Performance Reporting Improvements;
  • Collate, analyse and communicate the ‘Essential Elements of Information ‘pertaining to the operational environment and available human, financial and physical assets in order to facilitate access to timely and accurate information used to country, regional and cooperate level;
  • Support the country office in emergencies by compiling and drafting a
    Concept of Operations and regular emergency situational reports;
  • Collaborate with counterparts internally and with other United Nations agencies to ensure consistency in humanitarian information and to complement WFP analysis and information;
  • Guide and supervise support staff in assigned area as required, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with more complex analysis and queries;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Advanced University degree in political Science, Economics, Statistics, Information Management or Journalism, Social Sciences.
  • First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
  • Experience: Three years or more of postgraduate professional experience in a relevant field or work, with a background and interest in international humanitarian development.
  • Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English is a requirement.

    Knowledge & Skills:

  • Specialized knowledge of information management best practices, techniques and processes in the context of humanitarian work.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including substantive analysis and report writing.
  • Able to supervise and support junior staff.
    Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly assimilate, UN/WFP specific processes and systems in relation to this field of work.
