UNON Security and Safety Services Sergeant Jobs in Kenya; The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary‑General.

UNON supports UNEP, UN‑Habitat, the Resident Coordination System (RCS), and other UN offices in Kenya by providing administrative, security, conference and information services.

The Security and Safety Service (SSS) is responsible for providing security to delegates, staff, visiting dignitaries and other visitors.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide leadership to team members during scheduled shifts.

  • Conduct daily briefings and assign officers to posts.

  • Supervise staff, inspect duties, and certify reports.

  • Counsel, coach and mentor officers under command.

  • Provide input for performance evaluations.

    Security Operations

  • Enforce safety and security rules within the UN Complex.

  • Supervise control room duties and electronic surveillance monitoring.

  • Coordinate activities and prepare daily/periodical reports.

  • Ensure security equipment and vehicles are functional.

  • Conduct preventive searches and respond to suspicious items.

  • Provide first aid and respond to general security queries.

  • Assume control of specific areas during heightened security.

    Investigations & Reporting

  • Assign cases to investigators and direct sensitive investigations.

  • Prepare written reports of unusual incidents.

  • Make recommendations on operational matters and improvements.

    Data & Information Management

  • Assist with collection and analysis of data for decision‑making.

  • Support preparation of reports, visualizations and information materials.

  • Update web pages, brochures and other communication tools.

    Competencies

  • Professionalism – Knowledge of
    UN/International Security policies, ability to apply technical expertise, perform analysis and resolve protection issues.

  • Communication – Clear oral and written communication, active listening, openness in sharing information.

  • Teamwork – Collaborative approach, values others’ input, supports group decisions, shares credit for team accomplishments.

    Education

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Supplementary post‑secondary training in security or military required.

  • Passing of United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) required.

    Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ progressively responsible experience in security, risk, disaster or emergency management in public/private service (national security, military, police, corporate).

  • Minimum years reduced by 2 for candidates with a first‑level university degree.

  • At least 2 years’ international experience in security management desirable.

  • Experience providing supervisory support in an International Organization desirable.

    Languages

  • English required.

  • French desirable.
