University of Maryland School of Medicine Deputy Country Director Jobs in Kenya


Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for quality implementation across the organization's programs in the country.
  • Support Program Directors in developing and implementing program specific strategies
  • Enhance appropriate uniformity in program quality and standardized implementation approaches
  • Promote adoption, spread and implementation of best practices across programs including convening monthly and quarterly collaborative learning and best practice sharing events
  • Promote cross teaming among programs, from other countries and HQ
  • Define, coordinate and seek HQ technical and programmatic support and monitor quality of support to ensure it meets needs of the country.
  • Document UMB Kenya's models of intervention by program area/practice and develop a dissemination plan for internal and external stakeholders working collaboratively with all Program Directors.
  • Support the Country Director in cultivating and engaging national stakeholders including the national and county governments, donors, other Implementing Partners, academic health institutions, NGO5 and the private sector
  • Mentor and develop technical and program staff
  • Monitor program performance across all indicators and work with the Director of Finance to improve value chain in program to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in program implementation
  • Promote the culture of Data Demand and Information Use (DDIU) across the organization including dissemination and publication of program related work
  • Generate ideas that align to ever changing field of global infectious diseases through visualization of the problems from different angles and identifying patterns that link unrelated subjects for synergy.
  • Engage and support all programs to utilize program and patient related data and information to improve outcomes, inform policy and practice
  • Work with the Director for Monitoring, Evaluation and Performance Measurement to develop metrics and tools to support policy and impact assessments specifically
    as it relates to each of the programs implemented
  • Work with individual Program Directors to ensure all programs are managed within budget and meet targets within the specified time lines.
  • Develop and implement a strategy for performance bench-marking across all programs
  • Develop an in-house training and mentorship program to enhance program staff technical competences work with all PDs under direction of the Country Director to implement it.
  • Support program Performance Dashboard Review exercises in different programs and support the process of institutionalizing the practice for sustainability
  • Participate in national level Technical Working Groups and Committees as content expert as requested
  • Endeavor to publish articles and manuscripts to further the agenda of the global health program and in line with the institution's requirements for professional development

    Qualifications

  • Post graduate degree in Medicine (MMed or US Doctor of Medicine or UK Royal College of Physician Membership) plus post graduate training in Public Health
  • At least 8 years of experience in program leadership
  • At least 5 years experience supervising staff including senior professionals
  • Well versed and proven experience in current global health issues
  • Experience in designing, planning, implementing and monitoring public health projects
