Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)

Partnerships

  • Support nutrition partnerships network and engagement with Government, UN agencies, Academia, Private Sector, Civil Society and NGOs to strengthen collaborative and unduplicated nutrition efforts in the following areas for the common goal of achieving SDG2 by 2030:

  • National “Fill the Nutrient Gap (FNG)” data analysis cycle, including also report writing and design, launch event organization support, among others;

  • Setup of Multitaskers’ Task Force leading regular Assessments of affordability of nutritious diets and creating a regular monitoring of cost of the diet system leveraging national food price datasets already mapped in 2019;

  • Integration of the Fill the Nutrient Gap analysis, the monitoring task force, mentioned in the point above, with the programmatic improvements in the Fresh Food Voucher pilot in the Amhara region;

  • Incorporating the pressing issue of climate change and sustainable healthy diets into the evidence supporting the WFP CSP, the nutrition sensitive partners activities as per the CO nut strategy 2020-2025.

    Maintain established partnerships and develop new ones in line with opportunities for collaborative approaches and initiatives related to development nutrition i.e. stunting reduction

  • Maintain a network of national and international professional contacts in the area of stunting reduction;

  • Attend external events linked to stunting reduction, as needed ;

  • Identify new funding opportunities for the dissemination of the FNG results at regional level ;

  • Explore new partnerships such as celebrity engagement, and strategic partnership such as the one with local National Chef Association for the development of an Ethiopian Sustainable Diet Recipe Book and a national food banking system.

    Technical

  • Review and analyze data related to nutrition, dietary intake, food security, food cost and household food expenditure and socio-economic indicators in collaboration with the Ministry of Health ;

  • Capacitate and provide technical support to Government to prepare for and conduct the FNG nutrition situational analysis, including through conducting Cost of the Diet (CotD) and secondary data analysis, summarizing and presenting findings for discussion, and facilitating stakeholder workshops for formulating recommendations and decision making based on the findings ;

  • Liaise with relevant government bodies to get access to secondary data relevant to the FNG study

  • Prepare & submit IRB application to relevant ethical bodies of government for the FNG analysis

  • Support the preparation of budget allocation for stakeholders involved in the FNG study

  • Present the case of transfer of funds to Government to CPC members
    for approval
    Coordinate FNG processes with WFP sub-offices for the purpose of disseminating the results to regional, zonal and woreda level government bodies ;

  • Set up of and actual coordination of regular cost-of-the-diet analysis working group (WFP VAM, Fewsnet, GoE sectors) ;

  • Liaise and collaborate with other Programme Units in WFP (e.g. VAM, CBT, School Feeding, Climate Change, Resilience, Social Protection) to improve the understanding and use of FNG analyses ;

  • Represent WFP on strategic positioning of the FNG analysis and insights gained, both among external stakeholders and internally in the organization;

  • Support to the SUN Business Network co-chairing role of WFP: preparation of NFRs, conceptual notes for workshop, logistics of events

  • Support local production of RUSF

  • Support the development of fortified sorghum pasta in refugee camps

  • Support workshop on complementary foods
    Support to the Nutrition Partner Development Forum (SUN Donor Network) contribution of WFP.

    Job Requirements

    Qualification

  • Graduate level (Masters) in Public Health Nutrition (Epidemiology or biostatistics), Nutrition, Sustainable food systems, Agronomy, Statistics or other socio-economic disciplines with a strong quantitative data analysis component.

    Experience

  • 5 years of research experience of which at least 2 are relevant professional experience in nutrition and food security research, and WFP corporate tools such as the Cost of Diet and/or the Fill the Nutrient Gap approach.

    Language

  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English. Knowledge of the local language is added advantage.

    Knowledge and Skills

  • Very comfortable to conduct quantitative data analysis based on secondary data using statistical software (SPSS, Stata, SAS, R or other);

  • Very good expertise in Excel;

  • Good ability to conduct a literature review and identify key themes;

  • Capacity to coordinate with a range of different stakeholders, including national governments, research institutions, private sector, NGO partners, among others; Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural setting;

  • Flexibility in thinking, ability to adapt to different situations quickly and with ease;

  • Ability to work with and as part of a team and structure work with little input; Training and facilitation skills appreciated.
