United Nations Office to the African Union Gender Affairs Officer Jobs in KenyaWithin delegated authority, the Gender Affairs Officer at this level will be responsible for the following duties: • Supports the mainstreaming of UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security into all aspects of the implementation of the United Nations-African Union partnership in peace and security.
• Supports the process of implementing the UNOAU Gender, WPS Strategy and Action Plan to mainstream gender considerations into the work of each office component, and technically supports integration into Office mandated priorities.
• Supports the implementation of UNOAU’s Gender, WPS related activities, such as the “She Stands for Peace” Initiative.
• Supports knowledge management and data collection with regard to gender policy and facilitates the collection and exchange of information between partners and the UNOAU.
• Drafts, collates and edits specified results based inputs for all gender related reports and documentation as required.
• Coordinates, as needed, with other UN agencies, Funds and Programmes that have complementary mandates on gender related issues through participating in working-level mechanisms, such as the Gender Working Group, as well as coordinating with relevant institutions.
• Supports the provision of technical expertise as required to relevant partners and Office components on strategies for gender mainstreaming, including expanding the capacity for gender analysis and designing gender-sensitive policies and programmes.
• Supports the results-based budgeting (RBB) process and provides substantive inputs to results based reporting and analysis.
• Collaborates and supports the delivery of capacity-building programmes for gender and conflict analysis and conducts orientation activities on gender mainstreaming in the mission.
• Performs other duties
as required.
Work Experience A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible policy advice and programme management experience related to promotion of gender equality particularly with international organizations in conflict or post-conflict settings is required.
Experience in successfully integrating gender perspectives into mainstream policies or programmes is required
Experience working in a United Nations common system field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping, political missions and UN agencies, funds, and programmes) – or similar international organization or non-governmental organization is desirable
Experience working on the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Africa is desirable.
Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the advertised post, fluency in English, both oral and written is required; Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable. NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and " Knowledge of" equals a rating of " confident" in two of the four areas.
