United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Programme Support Intern Jobs in Kenya; This internship contributes to the PLEAD Phase II (Programme for Legal Empowerment and Aid Delivery), which focuses on strengthening the rule of law, access to justice, and accountability within Kenya’s justice system. It leverages technology to enhance justice service delivery, addresses systemic bottlenecks in justice sector service provision, and improves access to justice for marginalized groups while tackling corruption. The intern will report to the Head of the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme, under the direct supervision of the PLEAD Programme Manager, and work closely with programme staff and consultants.

Responsibilities

Substantive Support

  • Assist in the implementation of programme and project activities in crime prevention and criminal justice.
  • Conduct research and analytical work on key issues related to crime prevention and criminal justice systems, frameworks, and practices.

    Programme Planning and Coordination
  • Support the organization and execution of programme activities, including meetings, workshops, conferences, and training sessions.
  • Prepare detailed reports, minutes, and activity summaries to document programme engagements.

    Documentation and Presentation Development
  • Assist in preparing background materials, presentations, talking points, and speeches for programme activities.
  • Draft briefing notes and supporting documentation for meetings and engagements with stakeholders, including UN agencies and partner organizations.

    Communications and Visibility
  • Support the development, review, and management of social media content to enhance awareness and visibility of the programme’s work and impact.

    Administrative Support
  • Assist with procurement-related processes, including drafting terms of reference and preparing relevant documentation.

    Other Duties
  • Undertake additional tasks as required to support the effective
    delivery of the programme’s objectives.

    Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements: • Be currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate-level programme (second university degree or higher); or • Be currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent), preferably in Law, Criminology, Political Science, or Criminal Justice

  • Computer literate and proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

  • Strong interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and belief systems, with openness to differing opinions and perspectives.

  • No professional work experience required, but a closely related field of study is essential.

  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

    Languages

  • English required.

  • Knowledge of French or another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage.
